    Hi there

Im in the process of writing a book (sort of a book, more like an esl resource) and I was wondering if anyone can help me out here.

There will be alot of pictures needed to go into this book. They will need to be specifically as I want them so I will need to get an illustrator on board.

Can anyone tell me how I could find an illustrator? I have googled it (Im not just being lazy) but all I can find is the webpage for the illustrators guild of ireland.

Also, if anyone knows (roughly) how expensive these guys can be. I know it will depend on the amount of illustration I need but just a rough figure.

    thanks

have a look on the site for portfolios, usaly you can get a phone number to contact the illustrator, you can check out their art to, so you can see what you'd like to use.
not sure if they have their prices on it thoug

Thank you both for your info!!

pseudonym1 I think ill go with your idea, very good idea!! But what I will do first is take steodee's advice and find out what a fully qualified illustrator would charge, to know what I should/could get away with offering a student!!

    thanks alot!!

Are you hoping to pitch this book to a publisher or have you one lined up? I ask because most publisher don't like having illustration accompanying a submission. If they like the book they will find an illustrator and if you already have a publisher then ask them to sort an illustrator.

A professional illustrator will cost a far bit for this kind of job, just be aware of that up front, I'm not going to post numbers but if you'd like better idea then send me a pm. You can post on the creative ireland message board asking but most likely they will tell you to check the Illustrators Guild of Ireland website. I know its tempting to go the "offer it to an art student cus it will be good in their portfolio road" but please don't do that, first the work wouldn't be up to the level needed for print and second as its not fair to the student as you will be taking advantage of them and to the professional illustrators out there who are trying to make a living.

    +1

Unless you already have a publisher lined up (who have left the illustrating side of things to you) or are planning to self-publish and go down that often-dodgy route, you may need to become a bit more flexible on having the illustrations 'specifically' as you want them. Such is the business.
