    Hi all,

I just found out today that Farnell are closing their Dublin office. They will continue to trade in Ireland but all admin/accounts will be carried out in their English office.

Irish staff are out of a job on the 8th of Feb..

I'm thinking of closing my account with them and just using Radionics instead.

Maybe if a few other companies do as well they might reconsider.

    Thanks

    Anto

Shame, I am scared to be looking back in six months and see all the companies that have moved back to home office locations. But moving your business elsewhere only reinforces the decision to close the the Dublin office, they are closing as business is down already.

Interesting point murfie.. I didn't look at it that way. Reconsidering as we speak...

With Farnell closing their office, 13 people are out of a job but Radionics still employs over 50 people.

We need to support companies that exist in Ireland and not those who move back to the "mainland"

    Hi,
Not all this is true, I was visited in my area the south of ireland by my account manager with Farnell.

He informed me that he is staying on as my account manager and so are the others in the country and it was just the office that was being transfered.i have no intention taken my business away from Him or farnell, in all my dealings with them, he has been very cooperative and helpful, also we get next day delivery free of charge and he informed me two weeks ago that they are doing a sterling price 0f €1.10 to the sterling using their uk web prices till end of January.

I have no reason to change, also radioinics have three reps in my area and never call, sometimes quality is better than quantity.

No unfortunately i am not. i am an engineer for a company and take it day by day in the current economic climate. Alot of my colleagues are losing jobs. as for you , you could be an account manager for radionics or someone elsa, i just was giving my opions and let you know what i was told.

Nah, like you i am a customer but have dealt with Radionics for the last 20years and have always found them reliable. I was just commenting in reaction to your statement and that we should be supporting company's employing people in the Irish market.

With Farnell closing their Irish operation they are just cutting the administration cost out of their business and supporting the Irish market from the UK.

No problems, i understand that but the rep i deal with will be still working and calling in to ma and as i have no problems with him , i will continue to deal with him. their is a lot of jobs being lost out there and costs being reduced, hopefully my company will not be a statistic. i have to get the best deal for our company and at the moment i am getting it off farnell.

I always found both Farnell and Radionics equally prompt and similarly priced. However Farnell I've found to be more difficult to deal with commercially - Radionics just seem more eager to please their customers. Maybe other people found the same?
