i always thought u can get satellite channels from anywhere in ireland.
can you not get sky fta channels with a 80cm or 100cm dish?

what kind of forest are you in that you dont have a clear sky for the dish?

Surrounded by trees that are too close and much taller than the house, I'd imagine.

I know this might sound a bit daft but could you attach to a tree and paint it army green

Factors like forests are the reasons why satellite cannot give 100% coverage even within its footprint. Wherever you are, your receiving dish must have a clear line of sight to the satellite. If this isn't possible, due to anything blocking it e.g. trees, mountain (if you live in a deep valley), high-rise buildings, no size of dish will help.

An aunt of mine has a similar problem, a small forest lies next to her house towards the south-east which means that the satellite dish has to be well elevated above the eaves to get LOS - the side effect is that the pole has to be reasonably long on the first place and the effects of wind mean than it often "wobbles" and temporarily loses signal.

Maybe you should look at sky player system.

    http://skyplayer.sky.com/vod/page/tvListing.do

It allows you to watch some channels live via the internet and lots of other stuff can be watched on demand. You'll need to have a subscription to sky or the player to get it but you could always get someone with sky to register and give you access.

    A) Use up cap in about a week
    B) Limited quality and content

What is blocking your reception of satellite signals? Trees? Buildings?

    mmmm

    paint Green, sound nice,

yep i live in bottom of V shape Valley, and my back garden is way closed ( approx 25m aways to forest and it all way to top of valley. and closer tree size is more than over 100 feet or more

i have look on demand, and it's not good for me cos i need subtitles badly...

and i use watch BBC Iplayer for few months before xmas, then suddenly stop cos not based in Ireland..i don't know how i got through!

seems best way is underground cable.. but not in my area... thank for trying i will look up, more work for me

I take it that the dish needs to point in that direction to get the satellite you want.

How far out the front of the house does your garden extend? Dish doesn't have to be attached to house for line-of-sight, but you may be limited to length of cable possible.

my front garden is small and it cud de sac area with 30 house only my lane don't have sky, about 10 house in my lane cannot get sky, but opps house in my front garden

Is your estate visible on google maps? If so, you could work out where your dish could go and what it height it would need to be using http://www.dishpointer.com/

Or post your google maps location here and someone will work it out for you.

who knows what kind of damage it could do...
do you know anyone with a bulldozer!! ;)

    Neat

it can show on google map with visble, you can see how heavy forest is

    http://www.google.com/maps?ie=UTF8&t=h&ll=52.964127,-6.143476&spn=0.004976,0.010943&z=17

or search belard manor, Glenealy, wicklow, and you will see all signal we get pass through forest

unless i want watch asia or russia or non-english, i might lucky :pac:

You really need to check the dishpointer link. I've attached an example of one of the houses in that area. If your house is along the same road, the LOS isn't straight out the back, but diagonally across your back garden. With moderate height, you might be lucky.

Without knowing which your house is, it's a guess. Certainly the valley isn't an issue:

    dish2.jpg

Clearing the trees is the main issue. Say for this house:

    dish1.jpg

If you could get the dish right up on the side wall at the apex of the roof, the tops of the trees could be no higher than 12m above the dish height. Which is possible.

I've driven past that estate several times, so I know what the landscape is like. Remember that although the dishes look like they're pointing into the forest, they're actaully looking much higher than that, as seen in the first image.

that correct, seems right where i live, seems i gotta find plan 'c' or 'd' or 'e'

If your house is indeed along the row in coffee to go's pictures, it may be possible to set the dish on a wall in the gap between houses - the LOS and gap look to be almost parallel. Even a few meters back might help with clearing any trees that are in the way. And trees tend top grow upwards as well, so could become a problem again in the future! If it was my house, I'd be figuring out where the limit is, and then give myself some comfortable margin to play with.

    see what you think...

No, that's unlikely to do the job. You need the dishes to be as far from the trees and as high up as possible. Like this, with the dishes pointing over your house into the back garden.

Maybe contact Tony at satellite.ie - He should be able to provide you with all the DIY equipment you need, except a drill, ladder and a head for heights.

The elevation is about 21 degrees. so you need too be twice the distance from a tree as the difference between hieght of tree and dish
