+1 on Venu for the cocktails. Dunno about the intimate, though -- it gets pretty loud.

I recommend La Floridita - cuban restaurant/bar on Abbey Street (old Life bar at Irish Life centre)

    Good music/cocktail list

Capitol on Georges Street is fairly trendy and i specificially remember there being cocktails. Gets fierce busy tho so maybe not so intimate on a fri/sat night

    Hi there,

There are two places that I would recommend:

    Solas on Wexford Street http://www.solasbars.com/

Ron Blacks on Dawson Street http://www.ronblacks.ie/

    I hope this is helpful.

    Regards,

    Peter

floradita couldn't have picked a worse spot, everything that opens there fails

If you want to bring her somewhere a little more special (esp if she's a girlie girl), I'd recommend the Mint Bar in the Westin Hotel on Westmoreland Street. Cocktails def more pricey than in somewhere like Capitol, say, but also MUCH nicer. Even if you just stayed for one, it would be a nice way to start off the night out!

Ukiyo have half prices cocktails at the minute between 5 and 8, nice food too! worth checking out if your in town early.
Does anybody know if the bar that replaced Traffic on abbey street still does cocktails (and has any offers on them)

Floridita failed because the drinks were overpriced, the atmosphere non-existent and the food was complete shoite. It in a combination that rarely works.
