Back in my undergrad days in NUIM we had exam packs and had to bring out 'exam pass' into the hall with us. This year, in DCU, I've gotten nothing. Should I go looking for something that may have gotten lost in the post? Or do I just turn up with my student card?

Hmm thats abit strange alright. You should of gotten your exam pack in the post by now. Just head up to the registry or student centre and ask for one. They're free. Or consult the dcu examination webpage for further instructions

I'm a first year student sitting exams next week and I haven't received an exam pack either. Do I need one?

yeah I'm a first year as well, but I don't think you need one. They are only for guidance for doing the exams. All you need is student card and your examination number on your portal page...

That's ok, I thought maybe I needed something specific from it!

Student card, pen(s) and anything specific to the exam you're doing (eg. calculator) are all you need.

Theres no such thing as an "exam pack". All you need is your examination number, student id.

what the hell is an exam pack??

you just need your student card, also this year there is another ID number for anonymous marking, that you can get from your portal page

Here's an email from the SU covering anonymous marking etc...
    Hi everyone,
Just a quick note from myself, Dave and Niall (and all in the SU) to wish you the best of luck in your exams. I'd also like to remind you of a few things to keep in mind in the run up to and during your exams.

    *ANONYMOUS MARKING*

From now on, all formal written examinations will be marked anonymously. Don't forget, you must obtain your six digit examination number from your student portal page before your first exam. If you do not use your examination number you will be waiving your anonymity. You can find a full set of Guidelines for Students on Anonymous Marking directly above your exam timetable on your portal page and I've also included all the info you need at the bottom of this email.
    *
    DE-STRESSING DURING EXAM TIME
*Its important to give your mind and body a rest when you are studying for long periods of time. The lovely people in the DCU Health Centre have organised a programme especially for busy students to do just that. They have...
FREE relaxation sessions taking place from 3pm - 4pm at the Interfaith Centre all next week.

Fancy a Massage!! Pre - Book a 15/20-minute neck and shoulder massage for only 10 Euro, appointments are running daily from 1pm until 3.30pm. This massage will release tension and improve blood flow to the brain. Location: Health Centre

See link below for flyer on Tips for exam preparation:
    http://www.dcu.ie/students/health/pdf/Exam%20De-Stress%20Programme%202009.pdf

Or call in to the Health Centre or Interfaith Centre to sign up.

    *EXTENUATING CIRCUMSTANCES
*Once again a reminder that if you've been going through anything this year that may have affected your attendance/performance, such as illness, bereavement, or personal issues, then you can fill out an extenuating circumstances form and hand it into the registry. This means your circumstances will be taken into account when your exams are being graded or when they are being finalised for your transcript.

Remember, don't stress out any more than you have to to, the three of us are available in the union every day for advice and support about exams, assignments, deferrals etc, so don't be a stranger.

    Good luck!
    Susan

    *Anonymous marking examination guidelines*

    *Step 1*: Make note of your six-digit examination number on your student portal page;
(you will get a different number for each diet of examinations).

*Step 2*: Bring your current student ID card to all your examinations.

*Step 3*: Upon reaching the examination centre, find your seat number on the lists outside. *It is extremely important that you sit in the correct seat. *

*Step 4:* When you receive an answer booklet, you will be required to enter your full name and student ID number on a sealed flap on this answer booklet. You are then required to seal this flap securely.

*Step 5*: Write *your examination number, your seat number and the first four digits of your user portal page password (the one you received at registration) accurately and legibly, on the front of the answer booklet in the spaces provided. *If you don’t do this it may result in your anonymity being broken. If you can’t remember your examination number, just alert the invigilator in the examination centre.

    *Step 6: *Begin exam!

    Thanks for info guys.
One more question: Where is Block 3?
It says XG..... that means Science building right? It's the block 3 that's confusing me. They could have handed out maps along with all the regulations!

xg is the chemistry building, block 3 must be part of that building. When you go in in the morning just ask someone, I'm sure someone will be able to tell you exactly where your exam is taking place. Good luck by the way :)
