A family memeber (adult) would like to sit one subject this year in the junior cert... How do we go about it?

In all honesty unless their is a real specific reason I wouldn't bother. If said person is over 23 I think they can get into the majority of college courses as a mature student.

They already have a junior cert. The reason they are doing the jc course at the moment is because of a brain injury

    Edel,

    Take a look at this:

    https://www.examinations.ie/index.php?l=en&mc=ca&sc=ca

your family member will have to apply as an external candiadate. The above link allows one to apply to sit the Leaving Certificate as an external candidate. I can't find a form like this for a Junior Certificate as most JC candidates would be coming from within a school environment. Alternatively a local school might be able to enter your relative through their process as ultimately he/she will have to sit the exam in a centre which will likely be your local school.

You can contact The State Examinations Commission who have been running the JC and LC since 2003 at:

    The State Examinations Commission,
    Cornamaddy,
    Athlone.
    Tel: 090-6442700

There is a closing date of 30th January after which there will be a late fee.

Hope this is helpful and any more questions just PM me :D

They can apply directly to the SEC as an external candidate, or contact their local VEC school. Almost all of them have adult education sections preparing people for Junior and Leaving Cert. They will be able to advise on subject choices etc.. Your family member does not need to attend the free classes if they do not want to, but they may choose to.

They will certainly not be alone sitting it. Every year our school hosts about ten to fifteen JC candidates who appear to be over the age of 40.

There are many tens of thousands of people in the country who for a combination of reasons left school before the Group/Inter./Junior Cert.. Of course, not many of them are on Boards.
