I got laid off from my old job last summer, I used to be on call and used to get calls at any time of the night. For a while after I left I was getting calls in the middle of the night with issues, I contacted my old manager, he said that cause I took the old work number with me that it was my own fault and there was nothing he could do. Now I have another number and I got a call on that at 5 in the morning, I tried contacting my old manager, he's ignoring me, so I mailed HR and him, no response, is there anything I can do or have I just to put up with it?

Can you take this calls and do them as nixers??? that'd fairly sort out the problem.

If it were me I'd switch the phone off at night and leave a snotty message on the voicemail saying that you no longer work for company x and to phone whatever their switch board number is for further information. If they ring you during normal hours tell whatever numpty that's ringing you that you were laid off last year and you can't help them, they'll soon tire of ringing you. If you help them in any way they'll keep ringing you.

Leave a message for your boss saying if it happens again, you're going to the Gardai as they are nuisance calls and therefore, illegal.

I don't want to turn off my phone cause of the fact that my new job might call me and I don't see why I should. I also have no agreement with them in regards to nixers so I have no recourse to get money off them

I’m guessing you know the numbers of people you would want to answer in the middle of the night and those of the twats ringing you from your old job. If you do I would answer the phone along the lines of “Bum boys sauna club!” they will quickly stop ringing you. And yes I stole that from MBB.

It's a call centre that would be calling and it come in from a private number, it's more the fact that I'm being woken that's wrecking my head as well

Got it off a friend of mine that works there.

I rang the Data Protection crowd, very nice girl answered actually, very helpful. They are going to take up the case once I forward on the corospondance that I've had with the company in regards to this issue, looks like I'm getting somewhere

Ok, let me get this straight.

You were made redundant and took your company number with you and got a few calls from clients, fair enough.

But you then changed numbers to a new personal number, and your old company got this new number and gave it to their clients. And you've being getting calls in the middle of the night.

That's outrageous and really is taking the mike. You've made the correct move in contacting data protection. Don't let it go.

And I hope you gave your 'friend' a good kick in the nuts for giving them your number.

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.
