I learned this sad news last night. I can only assume that the recession has taken it's toll. In the other Bleu Note thread I said that it was under new management who were trying to get it up and running again, after the neglect of the previous management. That was the situation at that time. It's unclear if it will remain open as a non music pub, or close altogether.

That's a shame. I liked that place and there aren't many jazz places as it is in Dublin :(

Sad indeed. Despite various controversies surrounding the club, it was providing Irish-based musicians with gigs.

yesterday was the last night :(

I only found out by passing the place at midnight to find it still going and asked what was going on :(

    Real shame

I kept trying to go to the place for the last two weeks but it seemed very tempermental on when its open or not.

oh no , that's a pity -it was nice having a jazz venue there on the north side. ..+ it's right beside my college.

does any1 know if it's just changing name? or if it'll re-open as a music venue?

my sister who lived around that area tells me that in its positioning that pub is economically cursed.

It was an old mans pub ages ago and that closed down

Then it was a trendy studant bar (with DIT around the corner that would make sense) but that closed down too

Then it was a gay bar and that closed down aswell despite the outreach centre across the street.

And now its the Bleu Note that has gone through 3-4 owners?

    and now thats gone.

Yeah, they're just fixing the typo, and opening back up as Blue Note next week.

It's not closing down at all..My mate runs the place and they're getting ready for their 15th Birthday in Feb ...watch this space for some serious 90's deals :D

In that case, they dont seem to know wheather they are coming or going, as a friend of mine played in their "farewell bash" a few weeks ago.

that's terrible. they weren't even there that long. I hope they move into some other place in Dublin, as another poster pointed out their current address is economically cursed.

I think it was just bad management that f---ed it up. When it was under it's original management it was thriving. JJ Smyths has no problems with it's address which is just as much off the beaten track as the Bleu Note. I was at a gig there (JJ's) on a recent Tuesday night and despite the atrocious weather the place was full.

Yeah, the fact that it IS closed, and the owners & emplpoyees confirmed this by phone when I rang them.
My reply was directed at someone who was totally bullsh*tting.
