I wasn't expecting this. He must be really bad. :(

He'll be fine. If its gives him a faster recovery, it will be better for Apple. Would you rather have a half-coherent CEO for 2 years or be without him for 6 months and as soon as he returns he has loads of kickass ideas?

I hope you are right. I just have a bad feeling that this 6 months could become permanent.

I'm confident that the company, and Steve, have instilled the attitude and ethos he brought to the company right through the senior management. He's not going away for the 6 months, he's just taking a serious back seat from the day-to-day.

Tim Cook is more than capable of running the day-to-day operations for Steve's convalescence.

I view this as a positive - it's a dry run for that fateful day when Steve takes a more permanent back seat. Steve has the motivation and drive to recover and get back to running the company he co-founded.

All that being said --- get well soon Steve!

Apparently a few within Apple are saying that "he's worse off than he's willing to admit", which is quiet sad if true.

Having sad that I would consider Apple to be the one company in the current economy who rely on their CEO moreso than any other company and yet I still don't feel uncomfortable about this.

Realistically you can't believe that a company that has what they have in the bank, the market share they have or the general "fanboy" following the have could ever be solely reliant on one individual, yes, he is the "face of Apple" but no one man is bigger than a company of this proportion. They have a succession policy in place as they have talked about for years and even if he was to "fade into the background", it's not like Apple as a company or stock pick are going to self-destruct.

True, but every time there are rumors of his health declining rapidly, the Apple stock takes a severe beating - which is insane really, as at the end of the day, he is one person and the company should (and can) stand without him.

Agreed - and it's needed, as many mentioned. Especially given the current economic climate, Apple can't afford to take hits on its' stock price, merely because of rumors.

That said, I do hope he gets well soon and does come back for one last keynote at least, before retiring :).

While their stock price would be hit alright (bloomberg app says they're down 2.38 today) as soon as they have a conference and launch a new product, they'll bounce back.
