Don't know exactly when it happened, but I see Setanta have raised their connection fee for satelite viewers from €10 to €14.99. A 50% Rise, 25 times the rate of inflation and all for pressing a few buttons.

Would be interested to hear what excuses Setanta have for i.m.o this blatant rip-off.

rip-off means theft, trick, con, a price increase is none of these!
You know what your paying and what your getting

When a company has exclusive rights to a product and ups the price for no reason that is a rip off.

I think most people have a wider definition of "rip-off" than that. Going by your definition, there must be illegality before there's a rip-off. Rip-off Britain and Rip-off Republic were about highlighting bad value for money; not so much about reporting crime to the authorities.

Have a look at these pages - they do offer your definitions, but also offer common alternatives that equate to high pricing:

    here, here, and here.

Sorry to be getting up on my high horse, but there's been a number of people reporting high pricing recently, and being knocked back by others saying that if you're charged what the price says, then it's not a rip-off. Also, the Forum charter makes it obvious what the intention was in creating this forum.

+1. Perhaps "Avoid Overpriced" would help as an alternative. Posters are getting abuse from posters and mods just for trying to help.

I'd say it would be something like:
"We are a business, why would we charge people €10 when they will pay €15 and then maybe a handful will bitch about it"

The quality's ****, it's barely worth the hassle.
Anyone I dont know how your getting setanta for less than the 20 a month I think im paying.

I don't know if people are aware but I heard that they have lost their 2 games on saturday for next year. I will cancel them if this is the case, I hope not cause they will go under

Don't think too many people would care if they go under, their analysis and coverage could only be described as sh1t and although you would think competition with Sky is good in effect it just leads to football fans having to pay for two channels instead of just one

yep it's one of those bizarre things where competition is bad for the consumer

2 years ago sat. evening footy was on prem plus €55 for the year and rte had the sat. afternoon match-much better than pat dolan

    now i pay €20 a month

    that internet streamings terrible

I can't argue about the quality of their analysis. I just can't believe how stupid they actually are to allow themselves to loose the saturday games.
People are currently happy to pay 20 a month in spite of their analysis because of the number of good matches they show, if this changes all their customers will dissappear

Every game i watch has great picture quality.....not tv quality but its free........perhaps your isp isnt up to the job or your watching on a poor software client..........ive shown loads of friends the various clients to use and they are still thanking me for it years later from money they have saved...........hook my lappy to the tv and doesnt cost a cent......im happy and theres many more who love it.
