US Immigration - where do I clear it?

Can I ask a really dumb question? (I've filled in my esta - very easy I thought i'd be waiting on an email to confirm eligibility but it came up automatically.)

Where exactly do I go through US immigration at the airport? Do I head toward the gate and it's just there before you sit down and wait to board the plane? How long before the plane is due to leave should I head to the gate/immigration section? How likely is there to be a ginormous queue? Flying out Friday with AL on the 1030 flight. If i check in online how long beforehand would you recommend arriving at the airport?

3 hours would be good I assume you will have checked baggage.

Your flight will depart from the B30-35 gates. Follow the signs out to the B gates and you will find a stairs leading down to the US immigration hall. You will need all the forms completed prior to going down the stairs.

The queues at that time of the day are a joke in all fairness, you can have 5 or 6 flights leaving around the same time. The last time I was there it took over an hour to get thru. So no dossing in the shops etc.

    Have a good trip.
