Hopefully this is the right place for an answer. I currently have 500mb external USB hard drive but using it with a laptop is a nightmare and I am thinking of getting a wifi hard drive that I can connect to my wireless network so that I can access it from any room. As you can guess I use a laptop. Has anyone any information on this? There doesnt seem to be much about this on the auld internet.

You have 2 options really. If you already have a wireless router in your house, choose option 1. Otherwise, choose either.

    1. Get a NAS. This will connect into your wireless network via a cable, and be accessible from anywhere on your network.

    2. Get a Wifi Router with a USB port, like this one. You can then connect in your existing external hard drive into this, and share it across the network.

Bear in mind, speeds for copying data to a wireless hard drive will never ever match USB speeds.

I have a WD 1 tb network drive plugged into my wireless router. I think they are now going for about 150 in the likes of PCWorld.

Similar to above, I use a LaCie NetSpace that I got from Dabs - was about 110 when I bought it but seems to be 130 now:

Find it very easy to use and reliable.
