A little bit of research needed guys and girls. This will be fun - just 5 short questions.

1/ What is your favourite type. Red, white, dessert or sparkling?

2/ New World (Australia, New Zealand, USA etc.) or Old World (France, Spain, Italy etc.)...?

    3/ Favourite wine making country?

    4/ Favourite grape? (eg. Shiraz)

5/ Favourite brand or a specific wine you always go back to?

Thank you in advance. I'll report back when you all get bored and sum up the Irish palate if that's possible ;)

Question 1 - No preference, like all types indiscriminately!
    Question 2 - Old world
    Question 3 - France
Question 4 - (this varies with the weather!) - right now Riesling
Question 5 - None (I like variety) though I have several 'old reliables' such as Domaine de Piquemal (wines direct) and Sauvignon Blanc Gold Label (M&S) that I would buy regularly.

5/ Favourite brand or a specific wine you always go back to?

Wines from Rioja, especially Marques de Riscal.
Have been buying a lot of Chianti Classico from M&S recently though....

When I win the lotto that will change though and I'll be drinking myself to death on Château Margaux.
In fact, I may buy my villa nearby and cosey up to the owners.

1/ What is your favourite type. Red, white, dessert or sparkling? Red, red, and then more red !

2/ New World (Australia, New Zealand, USA etc.) or Old World (France, Spain, Italy etc.)...? Lot of new world (Oz, SA, Chile) but I'm a sucker for a good French win also

3/ Favourite wine making country? France - just for sheer variety !

4/ Favourite grape? (eg. Shiraz) Yep, Shiraz....the bigger, the better !

5/ Favourite brand or a specific wine you always go back to? Like a lot of other respondents, I'm too busy trying new wines all the time. However, I do find myself drinking an everyday Peter Lehmann shiraz on a relatively regular basis (my wife also loves it and keeps the wine rack stocked up ! )

1/ What is your favourite type. Red, white, dessert or sparkling?

    Red

2/ New World (Australia, New Zealand, USA etc.) or Old World (France, Spain, Italy etc.)...?

Obviously drinking a lot of Australian at the moment, but seeing as they adore their full bodied 14% wines, that can lead to some headaches.

    3/ Favourite wine making country?

By current default, Australia, though it always used to be Chile.

    4/ Favourite grape? (eg. Shiraz)

Merlot was a first love, these days it's cabernet sauvignon or shiraz in the Aussie wines.

5/ Favourite brand or a specific wine you always go back to?

There isn't a specific brand I'll return to down here, but I do lean towards shiraz from the Barossa Valley.

    1. Red
    2. Old World
    3. France
    4. GS & GSM. Tempranillo-based sometimes too.
    5. Not so much about the brand, more about the appellation. I like quite a few of the Rhône wines, like Châteauneuf-du-Pape and Gigondas. Rioja (note mention of tempranillo above) is also dependable.

    1 50% White 35% Red 10% Sparkling 5% Dessert
    2 Impossible
3 Italy/USA (Californian) and more recently Portugal
4 On the one hand Zinfandel on the other Reisling
    5 Villa Matilde/Seghesio

Thanks to all for their contribution. As I suspected, there is an almost exact split between New World and Old World, red and white. But it's fantastic to see Irish wine lovers making a real effort to try new wines. If find I constantly go through phases. At the start it was New Zealand Sauvignon and Pinot Noir, now its Barossan reds and Spanish whites. Tomorrow it'll probably be Italian Sangiovese and Alsace Rieslings.

Keeping tasting and keep experimenting. Thanks again Irish winos!
