Hi, I'm currently working in a factory for the past 18 months. Fulltime. A few guys are with us just under the year mark and have been given notice. Just reviewed names and service over the last few days and noticed the trend of last in-first out and also that my name is top of the list to be next!

    Just wondered...
As I'm there over a year am i permanent? I dont have a contract. But I know anyone from any position can be let go I'm wondered as you must have 104weeks services to be entitled to redundancy can I just be laid off or am I still entitled to redundancy papers even though not redundancy pay. The reason I am asking is to work out the finer details on my mortgage protection policy! Thanks

i think if you are over a year (regardless of no contract - thats why you should keep your bank records and payslips to prove they paid you) you have more rights.

The 104 weeks (2 year) rule is only for the statutory redundancy payment.
If there under 2 years, you can still be made redundant but just not get any payment, unless you employer volunteers to give you one.

Being laid off is supposed to be a 'temporary' measure until buisness picks up.

Last-in first-out is the way many places work, as it's deemed to be fair enough by many.

For the purpose of your mortgage protection, I'd say tell the insurance company your situation, & they should be able to give you the correct policy at the right price.

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.
