    Hi guys,

I hope this is considered a relevant post, apologies if not. Also, I realise that seeking professional medical help is an obvious and crucial thing. I'm just dipping my toes in at the moment to deal with my issue.

I would like peoples views for using the organisation GROW as part of overcoming anxiety issues.

Sometimes, I suffer from very high levels of anxiety and have decided to tackle this issue, sort of a New Year's resolution. As part of this I'm considering calling into my local GROW office and maybe taking part in some of their groups.

Anyone have experience of using GROW?

Also, I have bought what appears to be a pretty decent self-help book about overcoming anxiety and am working through that.

    Thanks.

    Fair play to you :)

I hope that you go to your GP with your concerns as well. He or she will be able to refer you to a psychiatrist who will be able to refer you to CBT if that is deemed an appropriate course of action.

GROW acts as a support - it is not meant to act instead of medical care.

    Hi op
I have been involved in GROW since the summer and I have found it really helpful. I was having problems with anxiety and depression and my CBT therapist recommended that I attend GROW to complement the therapy. I finished CBT in the autumn and am still attending GROW meetings weekly.

I wouldn't want to recommend anything to you as I don't know you but I can say that as a person who has had problems with anxiety that GROW has helped me take responsiblility for my mental health and make practical changes to my life. I used to feel that I was the only person with such problems and now I can see that there are lots of people like me. The group support and encourage each other in doing tasks outside the group. There is always a positive atmosphere and people understand how difficult tasks can be. Anyway I wish you the best and fair play to you for taking steps to tackle this..I know it's not easy. Take care and if you would like any other information feel free to PM me:)
