If your talking about the Titleist Fitting in Carton, The lads are spot on, fully trained by Titleist in all aspects of the product and both Qualifies PGA Professionals, I have been there twice for product training and fitting training, The faciility is spot on and the level of service, in my opinion, excellent.:p

Perhaps Gorfield has an ulterior motive, but i have heard from two people who have used the Carton House service who raved about it. Both good players as it happens too who would have used other such services before.

Ive no motive graeme, just having used both as a low handicap myself, fore golf had more options and more knowledge of the ball flight i was requiring as opposed to fitting a shaft just to suit my swing speed. i Required a specific ball flight with two seperate drivers and fore golf got it spot on rather than forcing me to buy just one brand, they sorted my driver and built me an exact replica for lower ball flight. Just sharing my opinion and experience.

Sorry, Gorfield but if you go to the Titleist Fittng Academy, What do you expect? The lads there work for Titleist, its not an independant setup, the idea is you go there if you want Titleist equipment. And they'll fit you for the lot from the driver to the wedges.:p

lets keep it on an even keel lads. Personally I wouldn't see past the guys at fore golf, they know their stuff and have plenty of tour experience fitting for the best.

Have heard good things about Carton too, but imo it doesn't make sense to pick the brand before you go for the fitting. Some brands just don't work for some players.

Apologies Gorfield, just seemed a little harsh on the Casrton House guys who i'd never heard bad reports about.

The whole idea of the Titleist Academy, is brand support to the Retailer, as with other brands who offer this kind of service, like Mizuno,Ping and Callaway, the customer has already chosen the brand he/she wants to go for, and if the customer wants to avail of this service they can do, you can't just walk off the street the appointment must be though an account only. Hence the sale is done before the customer rolls into the Fitting centre and eliminates time wasting.:p

agreed, not sure the OP knows this though and personally I would think it is pointless to go to the trouble of getting a professional fitting having chosen the brand in advance. You should go in with an open mind to all brands and options with someone who isn't tied to any brand imo.

I agree with Cop here. If I had a spare few hundred quid I'd head out to an independant place like Fore and say "right, I wanna try every make and model of irons and woods with every possible shaft combination" and just use my own preference alng with the stats and advice to choose.

I did try a fair amount of gear when chosing my current clubs but not all at the same time.

I bought a 907 driver there last year.

Custom fit cost €50 and the driver was €340

I was fitted by the American guy, cant remember his name. Nice though - very into his shafts.

The information on ball spin etc. went way over my head but I enjoyed the experience.

I went in thinking that I wanted a King Cobra driver, but the stats on screen showed I was more consistent with a 907.

If only I had another 400 euro to go back and get the new 909. :-((

You have to know that you want either Cobra or Titleist. Fore are great for fitting, and if you want mizuno, callaway or any other brand then go for Fore - but who better to do it that the manufacturers themselves.

I would just like to say what an excellent session I had at the fitting centre in Carton House before christmas. I would reccomend it too anyone.

Granted, I was limited to titleist & cobra but I knew that before I booked in with my pro and am delighted with the results.(Cobra Driver & rescue, Titleist irons & wedges)

Having been to fore previously, they are excellent too. I didn't get offered a massive choice though with Tailor Made, Nike and Titleist being the only visible clubs on show.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,925 ✭✭✭BUACHAILL

Very Interesting, well with that all said where does someone go for Mizuno ? Taking what gerrymaguire has just said I am sure Foregolf cover it but who is the specialist in Mizuno or is there any ?

Is it a complete waste of time then to go to say Carton House if your not looking to buy Titleist or Cobra or will u still take away with you information that will aplly to other brands for e.g shafts, lie's etcetc

Are these club fitting services as extensive as the ones in the US e.g Tom Wishon ?
Some of the so called club fitting services I've seen/heard of here are a joke.
Do they analyse your swing and then customise the club length, shaft weight, shaft type, flex, lie angle, head offset etc ?
The art of clubfitting is very interesting .
I'm reading a good book at the moment "Search for the perfect golf club" by Tom Wishon.
Its a real eyeopener to the myths and tricks perpetrated by the big golf companies and how buying golf equipment off the shelf is flawed.

I've been a Titleist player for the last 14 years and intend to stay that way for the foreseable future as I like their clubs.

I got fitted a while back by Henry in Carton House. All I can say is A1 service.Very knowledgable.Actually ended up with a new driver as well as the irons.

Guys I have a few questions in relation to the Titleist fitting centre in Carton house.

Can you book a fitting for just a driver or wedges for example or do they fit you for the entire set and charge you for it all even if you only buy a driver? or do they charge separately depending on your need?

When you book through your pro do you agree the price of the club(s) first with him and then add on the cost of fitting. Who do you pay, the pro or the centre?

    Much obliged for any advice:)

In my case My pro booked the session for me.I wanted new irons and knew which model also as I had already demo'd some sets.

Regarding payment, I paid my pro 50 Euro for the fitting and as far as I am aware it is 50 Euro regardless of which clubs you get fitted for (be it just a driver or wedges)

I only went up to get fitted for the Titleist AP 2's but when I was there Henry checked out my driver also. When I found that I was hitting the 909D3 15yards further than my own I ended up getting that B4 my irons..

I have since lost 2.5 shots since getting fitted so well worth it.

Was it 50euro for the fitting or was the 50 taken off you cost to buy the irons and driver.

When you get fit for Titleist clubs and the fitter in Carton House gathers all my specs., what happens then? (1) Will he send my specs. to Titleist and they will build the clubs for me? (2) Will the fitter modify a standard set to match my specs? (3) Will the fitter order the shafts, grips, head type, frequency match the set, MOI match the set, swing weight the set, bend the heads to suit my lie angle and of course, because i paid good money for this service build a bespoke set for me?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 622 ✭✭✭irishtoffee

If you book through your pro, Henry at Carton will send your specs to your pro. Then you can order your new irons from him (pro) or get the specs from him and order online yourself. If you phone Carton and book your fitting through them,Henry Will pass your specs on to Carton and you will half to buy from them.Your clubs will be made in the UK by Titleist to whatever specs you need.I was fitted by Henry for AP2S last summer and would highly recommend him.Bought the clubs through my lacal pro.I was always a Taylormade man but would never go back them now:).

So your telling me that when all my measurments are taken an i would be more suited to a frequency match set or lets say i would like a frequency match set that the factory in Cambridgeshire uk will make up the set for me?

the one thing that pissed me off about the fitting in Carton was that they email the specs to your pro instead of handing them to you. Pretty stupid really. It just meant I had to go to my pro, get the specs then buy online.

Very very fast. Great value too. For anyone getting titleist online. They have all the customisations you'll need after getting fitted.

I don't think so. I couldn't anyway. It's all tied up with titleist so the guys fitting have a predefined list they can send info to (titleist certified or whatever). When I did it I HAD to do it through a pro.

You can walk up other fitters though for some reason.

As i said earlier you can book yourself by phoning Carton House, same cost €50.When finished you will half to buy from Carton as that is where he will half to send your specs.I suppose you could record what he says at the end on your phone and that way you will have the specs to buy online;).

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 41 anthonyt

maybie its just me but why would you spend 50 euro to be custom fit by a club pro and not be in control of your specs.when you can go to a clubmaker who's only interest is golf clubs not swing faults.you can walk out the door with all your specs buy any from the net and buy from whatever manufacturer your heart desires.or he can buy the the components to put the clubs together by hand for you he is in control of the frequency of the set,the moi of the set,the swing weight of the set,the lie and loft of the set,the grip size of the set.the flo of the set and the position of the flo in the heads, the kick point of the shafts, and if that is not enough you can call back and make changes as you wish.the passion of a clubmaker is putting together a set thats works for you not him or your friend or his frind and thats what clubmaking is all about getting the right equipment and putting it together for you.Why o why would you pay someone to send your specs to a factory in a different country to get made by many hands that you never met or seen what happens in this factory can you go in a see where your set is being made.

I could easily stand corrected, they may well have changed of late, but up to a few months ago they didn't do sales.
