Ballsbridge is 8 minutes by train (Dart from Connolly to Lansdowne Road) from the city centre.

    Buses 4, 4A, 5, 7, 7A, 8, and 45 all serve Ballsbridge from the city centre.

They all stop in Grafton Street outside Trinity College and at the last stop before Kildare Street on Nassau Street.

Journey time is about 10/15 minutes from Trinity depending on traffic. Fare is EUR 1.60

It probably would be faster and easier going by car if you will be travelling at a time when there's little traffic on the roads (especially in and around the Dublin area).

Otherwise the train, luas and DART might be faster.

Sorry for hijacking this thread if I should open a new one please let me know. My daughter has to go to Dublin shortly and will be arriving at Heuston station. Whats the easist way for her to get to Ballsbridge using public transport. Would this journey be very expensive by taxi.

Probably the easiest way is for her to get the LUAS to Connolly station and then jump on the DART (heading south to Bray). Both parts of the journey will take roughly 10 mins each.
Would have thought a taxi from Heuston station would be around €10 - €15.

Cheers kcools will pass on the information. Much appreciated.

The other option is to take a 90 or 92 bus from outside Heuston Station to Batchelor's Walk at O'Connell Bridge and then take a 4, 4A, 5, 7, 7A or 8 from the stop on O'Connell Bridge.

Journey time approximately 25 minutes all told.

Incidentally, taking the LUAS to Abbey stop and then walking to Tara Street Station is usually faster than taking the LUAS to Connolly and then walking to platform 6.

OP I definitely would recommend taking the car to Dublin, it will be a horribly long trip for you on the train, luas and dart.

According to AA route planner it takes 3hrs and 3 mins to Ballsbridge from Galway, I think the train takes about 3 hours anyway and then you have to get off, get on a luas, get off the luas, walk over to the correct platform, get off dart and walk from dart to Ballsbridge.

There is plenty of parking in Ballsbridge and you don't have to go near the City Centre to get to it by car.

At least with the car you can leave at your own time etc and there is no rushing for trains. It also probably works out cheaper, depending on the car you drive!

If you do decide to take public transport, you can get an integrated ticket from Galway to Lansdowne Road or Sandymount that will cover your Intercity train, Luas and Dart to Ballsbridge. Even if the staff at the train station say they can't, the definitely can.
