    hi,

my jeep has a full vehicle wrap on it. Basically meaning there is a big vinyl sticker all the way around it.

I need to remove this now.

Is there anything ot there to help with this.
Like some spray or whatever in halfords or something??

    Cheers!

could be a good idea to ring one of the tinting companies to see if they have any tips on taking the stuff off or you could try a smll flat credit card type and a hair dryer!

the hair dryer will heat the adheiseve and the card can peel away at it.

don't use a hair dryer you'll have sticky stuff every where just use a
    Stanley Window Scraper

Heat alcohol and lots of cloths. Soapy water.

Proper heat gun will make life easier if you go gently. (Go gently and carefully)

but he is not talking about window tints??? its a wrap...which is a vinyl sticker that is 'wrapped' around the vehicle on top of the PAINTwork!!

b1ackr0se ---> getting the vinyl off using a bit of heat is not too hard, its the sticky bits that are tough to get off.

There's a world of difference between removing a sticker from glass and from paint. I've removed signwriting and wraps many times and there's only one way to do it without destroying the paint: HEAT.

Use a heat gun to soften the adhesive and carefully strip off the vinyl, heating as you go. You can be lucky and get the adhesive to come away with the vinyl, but it's tricky and the older the adhesive, the trickier it is. Use alcohol (ethanol or meths; Tric will also work, but is hazardous) to disolve the adhesive residue and then polish with T-Cut or similar to match the paint and any area not covered by the wrap will usually be a slightly different colour.

If you're adventurous you could use the method the auction houses use to strip logos off Garda and An Post vehicles: a blowtorch!! I wouldn't recommend it.

I was thinking tinted windows not decals, I have already acknowledge my stupidity but thanks for pointing that out again. dtdirl must be a great place for advice, if it stays up for long enough :)

sorry mate, i thought you were talking to my colleague on the phone. coulda sworn i heard him giving you a quote! i didn't want to seem like i was pestering you!!

i do think the hairdryer method will work...it can just depend on the vinyl used. thinners can get the glue off (just test on a hidden area of your vehicle 1st to make sure it wont wreck your paint)

no probs giddyboots I actually rang in to get a quote... and was quoted about 400 a day and it may take 3 days to do.

I bought a heatgun from the local hardware shop for €30.
Got home and had the jeep completely stripped in 1 hour and 20 mins.
No glue left on the body at all!!

Thanks for all the help lads and giddyboots! Much apreciated!

Now..... anyone want to buy a commercial jeep :)

yeah that's why we usually advise trying the hairdryer first!

some of the vinyls (the type meant to last 3 - 7 years) can be a b**ch to get off especially if they have been on a few years! they are the ones you might need professional help with!!

glad you got it sorted :)

I just bought a van, has a wrap on it that I've been trying to get off, tried the hairdryer and after a full day I've managed to strip it off just the sliding door, what a bitch of a job....I've no skin left on my finger tips... I think the thing was meant to last 30 to 70 years, let alone 3 to 7....

think it would have been easier to just change profession to that what was being advertised on the van, now it just looks like I do a half arsed job.. lol
