Anyone got old wheels / What new wheels?

Hey, I'm getting this turbo trainer specific tyre for €15, maybe its a bit of a farse..but I'm willing to give it a try (much cheaper than the Tacx version at €28)

Anyway, I've been using an old tyre for the moment, absolutely crap when I decide to go out, so I've decided to get a spare wheel to make life easier! :D (rather than change tyre every time!) Does anyone on here have an old wheel lying around, not willing to spend much, just looking for a basic 700c clincher wheel that works with 9speed Shimano!

I'm living in Limerick, so nearby would suit better, but if you live anywhere else (just say like Dublin or something) I'll surely be around sometime soon! I can collect it then, so just let me know if you have one! We can arrange something.

P.S. Do you think going into my LBS is a good option? He might have one lying around, but could charge a bit for it! €50 on CRC for a new Mavic Aksium.

Just a quick question, if I was to upgrade the wheels...what do you think? It's a 2008 Trek 1.5 and currently has Bontrager SSR Wheel's, nice to look at, strong, but weighing in a nice bit over 2kg!! Around 2300g in total! WOW!
Mavic Ksyrium Elite Wheels 2009...1550g for €400
Mavic Ksyrium Elite Wheels 2008...1690g for €360
What are the fulcrum wheels like?
    Fulcrum Racing 3 Wheelset...1605g for €380
Fulcrum Racing 1 Wheelset...1550g for €630 (same weight as 2009 Mavic Ksyrium Elite Wheels, much more expensive! The Mavic price equivilant is the Ksyrium SL's weighing only 1485g)

Can you reccomend any other decent wheels, preferably sub €500 for the pair! Thanks in advance ;)

DT Swiss RR 1450 (standard) - £389 from CRC, 1480g per set, fantastic wheels. More bang for the buck than the Mavic or Fulcrum IMHO and are rebuildable with standard parts.

Yeah, I'm increasingly of the view that this last point is actually very important and something people don't pay enough attention to when shopping for new wheels and blinded by bling. I recently broke a straight-pull spoke on my rear wheel and it took my lbs a couple of weeks to get hold of a replacement. So next time around I'll be looking to something with a more traditional design like the DT Swiss 1450 or 1850. I might even go down the custom route.

Are these the wheels you are selling? Maybe you have the black colour like here but they are a good bit under €200 for a brand new set in both places! So, make me your best deal: I only want 1 wheel (€180 divided by 2 = €90) and considering they are second hand usually means at least 50% off (€90 divided by 2 + €45). How does that sound? Let me know what you thinks, cheers! ;)

If anyone is interested, the much awaited 2009 Mavic Ksyrium Elite wheels are now in stock on CRC. They are supposed to be very popular wheels this year, dropping a huge amount of weight from last year (now only 1550g) and keeping the price cheap @ €440. Good luck! :D

    BIKERADAR
BETTER VALUE IN THE MIDDLE: Riders looking for mid-range wheels arguably reap the biggest rewards from Mavic’s new range with the revamped Ksyrium Elite, which morphs from a rather portly also-ran to a bona fide contender for your hard-earned money. The ’09 version loses a whopping 140g per pair while the upgraded skewers subtract another 35g or so. The Inter Spoke Milling (ISM) feature previously reserved for the more expensive Ksryium models now finds it way here, too.
Even better is the fact that suggested retail prices climb only US$25 to US$625 and US$650 for the silver or black-anodized finishes, respectively.
...AND READ THIS. NOTHING BUT PRAISE! :D

What do ye think of these Mavic Ksyrium Elite wheels 2008? The pair is going for €266 as they are "shop soiled"...whatever this means! Anyway, what do you think is it a good value upgrade?

So??? Nobody has any opinions on these wheels...they seem like good enough value.

I was once told that what makes a bike is good wheels and tyres. Well, I'm pretty sure about the wheels but not so much about the tyres until today. I got a set of Pro 3 Races (€50) for "special use"!!! I put them on for the last two races but accidentally-on-purpose left them on for training too! I clocked up 800-1000km on them during this time and yesterday I saw some noticable cuts on the rear tyre, and a flat spot developing. They seemed so good but I changed them for my cheap Vittoria Rubino Pro's which cost half the price. Well, I hate them! The bike just seems so dead...I don't know how but they really make it feel crap! I think I will just get expensive tyres from now on (and let them wear quickly as they tend to do! :p) and accept that you get what you pay for. They bike is much more enjoyable to ride and makes nice noises from the contact with the tarmac! :D

Ye probably think I am making this up but I really mean it, it's worth the difference!

EDIT: The good value set seems to be gone!!! Anyway...
