After spending a lot of money and time on holidays over the past 2 Summers I'm thinking of something a bit cheaper and closer to home this year.

The very rough plan at the moment is to go to the Benicassim Festival, which is between Valencia and Barcelona. After this I plan on interrailing around Spain, hopefully visiting Barcelona, Valencia, Madrid, Seville, San Sebastian and fly home from Biaritz probably.

Has anyone had any experiences on a similar trip or any advice on 'Off the beaten track Spain'?

Anyone ever been to Benicassim? It sounds Savage.

    Ty

Was at Benicassim last year and it was savage.

As far as I know the campsite opens on the Monday with concerts starting on the Thursday, if you're taking a good bit of time for your holiday anyway you may as well arrive there on Monday just to get a decent camping spot, loads of people arrive at the beginning of the week so there'll be plenty of partying before the music itself starts. My only other advice would be to hire a bike for your time there, it's a bit of a trek on foot between the concert venue and the beach.

Can't offer any advice about the rest of Spain, Beni was the only time I've been there. Have heard that some of the sights along the Camino de Santiago are well worth seeing.

Was at benicassim and did inter railing after,
I wudnt bother with the bike the walk is fine, my advice would be to book your train ticket in advance when your leaving, i had to get a bus coz i wasnt bothered waiting 10 hours for a train the place was so packed and booked up, getting to the train station is hard, get a taxi...the busses are so undependable. some trains dont accept inter rail passes its hard to know which ones do. some people try to charge you on the train and all

Hey guys, This summer I'm planning on interailling (Prague, Berlin, Amsterdam) and then flying from amsterdam to Valencia or Barcelona for Benicassim! Is this a bit too ambitious or do-able? All we have booked is flights from Dublin to Prague on the 28th of June. Any advice/tips about Prague, Berlin, Amsterdam, Benicassim for four 18 year olds on their first trip? :)

You should start off by going to the San Fermin festival in Pamplona first. Quiet little town until the festival starts, then it's complete madness for a week. It's the week before Benicassim, can head down after, would make for a great holiday. Have plans to do it myself next year.

Benicassim is great and everything, but it isn't like an irish festival. The mornings and afternoons can drag a bit as the proper acts dont go on until about six or seven, so maybe camping over a few days isn't the best thing to do. It is also quite pervy if you are a single girl, our two single girl friends clung off us for the three days because they kept getting groped and were getting a weird vibe (I know what you're thinking but they usually aren't hysterical so I take them at their word).

It seems to be best enjoyed if you are there with a big group.

Interrailing in Spain is great, try and head down to Andalucia, the train network isnt the best (you'll spend at least a few hours stuck in bloody Bobadilla!) but it's the nicest part of the country. Cut down on your time in Barcalona and allocate more time to Madrid, Barcalona is for spinster aunts and old married couples, Madrid is a proper party town.

    Above all have fun!

I was in Pamplona last year and it was great. However, by this stage all the major hotels are booked or fiercy expensive. Our hotel was €50 a night normally but shot up to €190 for the week of the festival. Also, if you arn't a big drinker its not a great place to go because beside the BullRun at 8am (Which you have to be at for 7am) all you'll do is drink. I also for the life of me couldn't find one restaurant in the town

A tad ambitious but depending what you want to spend you could do it. Barcelona is a great city to see. The beach is pretty good and the city itself is worth a cycle through. Are you planning on hosteling or hotels? Never do hostels myself personally.

Also, InterRailing around Spain in June / July is incredibly hot. If you arn't one for the heat I would avoid doing it. I won't be InterRailng around Spain again. The trains are amazing but the stations are like the Sahara.
