Internet Connection Painfully Slow - Vista

Have a xps730 and have just installed a dwa556 pcie wireless adapter for connecting to the internet. The adapter installed fine but when I open up any webpages it takes almost forever for them to load  and half the time they just hang on me.

I have two laptops with internal wifi cards which have no problems when on the internet so it seems to be just the desktop. Have'nt a clue what could be wrong (would it be a problem with the adapter or a setting in Vista that is causing it) Any ideas would be a great help as I'm completely flummoxed at this stage

p.s. I have been told that some of the security settings in Vista can be a little problematic with regards to Internet Explorer

Can you connect your pc to the router with an ethernet cable? Are pages opening at normal speed if you can?
