Done it in both directions a few times. Never had any problems on it. It's about 4 hours and costs around 20 odd dollars.

I've used this crowd more recently as they are much cheaper. Only 15 dollars one way.

    Serial killers??? hardly...

There was one murder carried out by a guy in Canada with a knife on the actual bus but he was arrested. I wouldn't think there would be any serial killers on them to be honest- at least not active ones.

Anytime we got the greyhound line it was safe, quick, cheap and flexible.

i think he means that when prisoners are let out of prison in the states they are apparently given a free greyhound bus ticket to get out of there, hence a portion of the passangers are convicted criminals heading home (or off to commit crime somewhere else!!)

Oh the people on the Greyhound buses are marvellously scummy. I wouldn't worry about it for short journies though. Listening to the conversations can be pretty amazing - you will never hear as many hard luck stories in one place.

We had a man who had lost everything in Hurricane Katrina, had just managed to build another house, only to lose it in Gustav. Plenty of people moaning about being forced off to I-raq in the morning - felt very bad for them. My favourite of all was the woman who started a conversation with the amazing phrase - "Don't you just hate it when you have to go to jail." Plenty of drunks and junkie types too.

Greyhound staff tend to be extremely rude. Make sure you turn up well ahead of schedule to get on the bus as the queues can be massive and even if you have a ticket there's no guarantee you will get on. Also don't expect decent customer service if there is a problem - we got thrown out of the bus station for daring to question the authority of the woman who was organising the queue.

What you should do is go on www.megabus.com. If you book ahead of time, you can go for $6-10 each way.

Or you could try the Fung Wa bus, its 10 or 15 dollars each way and you get to watch hilarious Kung Fu movies all the way up. Its the Chinese Bus tour

The Fung Wa is definatly the way to go. I found it much cheaper that greyhound. The only problem I had was finding the damn bus station in Chinatown!! I got it though its beside the Manhattan bridge.

Took the Fung Wah myself and found it fine although Lucky Star and those are the same I'd say.

Not as orderly as a flight or train so get there well ahead of time, tell them you are there to confirm arrival and have your tickets ready and waiting!!!

Actually we took a late bus back to Boston from NYC and half way through the trip there was a fierce knocking on on the floor...the engine was making a knocking sound so we pulled over, driver got out and off we went again. Dunno if the knocking stopped or what!

    Have a good trip!

I'd go for megabus, had a great trip with them. You have to book ahead of time online and your seat is reserved, cheap, new bus, comfortable. Don't know if they do that route but if they do they're nice. They bus I went on was mostly a younger crowd students and the like all nice and chatty even though it was an overnight bus :)
