I would say that the soffit should be installed after plastering anyway, this way the plasterer does not have to try and finish the plaster in a straight clean line up to the soffit, and it avoids rub off, and scratching the soffit with the trowel/float etc., and then when the soffit goes in, it leaves a clean line, and hides the top of the plaster work, which can be rougher than the rest of the wall

The J-rail is put on and plastered up to, the rest fascia and soffit is put on when the plastering is finished

I find it better to ask for the J-rail to be put on the scratch coat and finished up to. It keeps the plasterer on his toes too.

    Hi Stifz
Plaster before fascia/soffit done otherwise plaster will get all over fascia/soffit. There is a trim made by Freefoam available in any builders merchants if you are doing it yourself. The trim name is PVC F107 and it nailed to a 50 x 35mm batten on wall first then plasterer can plaster, then u can install fascia/soffit. If you are getting it fitted the fitter will know what you are looking for. Attached rough diagram not to scale how it's done.
