Does anyone know where I can get cheap flights to Maylasia for next August/Sept?

The best deal I could find to date is Air Asia X - approx £550 from Heathrow. But they see mto be the 'Ryanair' of Asia so i'd prefer go with one of the more luxourious airlines if possible.

    Ta in advance

    Try www.kayak.com.

Register and it'll allow you to use flexible dates in your search. Just did a quick search there from 25th Aug to 8th Sept. Cheapest was €873 with Etihad from Dublin. That's a good price as the majority of flights to KL will be over €1000.

Also worth looking at the option of flying to Singapore to widen your options.

Only KLM and Lufthansa fly to both Dublin Airport and Malaysia so you're choices are limited. KLM have always been cheaper for me but it's worth your time checking out flights to Singapore since it's at the tip of the Malay Peninsula with only a small waterway separating the two countries. Far more airlines fly to Singapore from Europe giving you more choice. For me on my most recent trip I got the second cheapest flight by flying with AL to Paris and then Singapore Airlines onwards. If you don't mind transferring your luggage yourself at the hub airport then you've got lots of options to Singapore and this is what I did at Paris.

yep, just booked flight to Singapore from LHR cost me GBP583 equivalent to EUR618 for September 09. That was the day when 1EUR equivalent to 0.95GBP so me being bit wise lucky on that. Dublin to LHR by Aerlingus only 125EUR so totalling EUR750. I saved more than hundred grand because usually it would cost you 850 to 1000. And the best part is I'll be flying with the newly biggest carrier A380:D. That was the main reason to fly through Singapore coz they are the 1st of 2 airlines( Emirates being the 2nd) that using this Airbus carrier. Other airline flies direct to Malaysia by Malaysian airline normally around GBP600+ from LHR

So there you go my biggest luxury!:o

Air Asia X have a standard pitch of 31". You have to pay for the extras (food et al) and don't expect entertainment. Very Ryanair but their long haulers are new and their short haulers are just fine AFAIC.

Etihad also kangaroo to KL for approx E800 return via Abu Dhabi (mid-week).
    Can't recommend them enough!

    Other options:
    MAS/KLM via Amsterdam
    MAS/Lufthansa via Frankfurt
    MAS/BA via LHR

I fly regularly and KLM / Etihad are usually cheapest. KLM suck balls on that route tho - old 747s rubbish IFE.

Anyone ever used Cathay Pacific? If so are they good to fly with?

They seem to be offering the best prices at the moment - from London.

I cannot comment in detail but a friend used Cathay and transit in Hong Kong. So if you are fine with 2 transits then go for it.

I wouldn't mind flying on that baby (the A380 that is) - how can you be sure that you will be flying on that particular plane, or is it the only one they use for that route?
I was looking up Singapore Airlines flights and the Aircraft Tyoe says '388' outbound, '744' inbound. What do these numbers mean?

yes, A380 used only for London-Singapore route at the moment. They have 3 flights to spore daily. One by 747, another 2 by A380( 2 choices but only 1 can be booked online when I did it). It will ask you to select the seat no after the purchase. For the sake of experience I select both A380flight outbound/inbound with me being on the lower deck one journey , upper deck return journey.:D

    London(LHR - Heathrow Terminal 3) on Fri, 11 Sep 2009, 2205 hrs
    Singapore(SIN - Changi Intl) on Sat, 12 Sep 2009, 1755 hrs
    Flight:SQ321 (A380-800) Economy Class

    hope this helps.:)
