    Hi All,

Got a macbook pro for christmas and im a bit confused when it comes to buying a case/sleeve's for the thing!

In a huge number of websites im seeing 'Does not fit new macbook pro', is the 'old' version 15 inch and the 'new' version 15.4 inch?!

On some of the pictures im looking at for hard shell cases, the ports are different from mine! I bought at the end of 2008, all my ports are on the left hand side.

Are there cases out there for the macbookpro 15.4 inch I have?! If not, when can we expect some?!

If they're out there, which sites sell them?!

Can someone also tell me why they put all the ports on the left?! Surely for pluggin in your mouse, right handers will plug in on the right?!

Thanks for any help or direction!

If you have black keys which are individual on the keyboard you have the new models. There are a lot of other differences but that's the easiest to notice. The new ones are a different shape to the old so some sleeves mightn't fit them, try www.apple.ie/store

Both the new and older MBP models come in a 15.4" screen size - it's the thickness of the laptop that differs and this is why a lot of the older sleeves are not suitable. As for the ports on the left, who knows? They did shove the superdrive to the right, which is better IMO (the older models eject the disc from the front, which is annoying if the laptop is on your lap...) but there was still room for other ports on the MBP... It probably has to do with the new LED display more than anything and is probably purely for looks, when connected to one...

In any case, if all you want is a sleeve, I got one of these for my new MB (they come in suitable sizes for your MBP as well):

Very snug, but no protection from bumps/knocks - it's only useful for throwing your laptop into another bag, which is what I do anyway...

You want a sleeve specifically made for a MBP. I have Tucano sleeve, and also recently bought an InCase sleeve for someone (for the new MB) which is so much more beautiful. If I could have justified it, I'd have bought a MBP version for myself.

The problem with the above is that they don't fit this port configuration -

About half way down the page

Which means there's different versions of the macbook pro floating around!

Yes there are - both Amull87 and I said so. If a sleeve fits the new model (unibody/black keys), it should be stated somewhere in the product description. That's the case with the Radtech ones I linked to. Before this last revision, the form factor was exactly the same for years... Some case/sleeve manufacturers are still playing catch up so you won't find as many for the new models quite yet but more will be made available all the time.
