Saw a trailer for this last night before Rolemodels (Incidentally, very good) and it looks like absolute tripe - of the immensely enjoyable kind.

Looking forward to it immensely now. Decent cast, and anything involving the clash of primitive and advanced society pulls me in. I even....yeah I even enjoyed The Time Machine with Samantha Mumba.

Ron Perlman is in it, so that's me won over.

I'll hand one thing too them,

That storyline certainly hasn't been done before. But, yes anything with RP is okay in my book. I even enjoyed the Mutant Cronicles

Been looking forward to this for nearly 3 years. It appears to be getting a small release and then dumped straight to DVD which is a shame as the reviews are all very good and it looks bloody brilliant.

For some reason, I thought this thread was going to be about the Sean Connery movie of a similar name.

As far as the Viking movie.. bit of a twist on Beowulf meets 13th Warrior to me.

    NTM

    THIS IS F**KING WIN.

Just saw an advanced preview of it, and my god, it is excellent!

The storyline is a slight rehash of past tales of lore, but it's very well done.
I like the twist about the technology: ye'll be thinking it's something else, but it's nice the way it's added.

Yeah, this film was the winnest. Vikings= awesome most of the time. Add into that the fact it's called Outlander (outlander? Awesome!), sweet monsters, deadly action, just the right length. Man, it was a delightful romp.

Saw it a while back, thought it was pretty dull. Terrible, terrible CGI in places.

Half-way through the trailer I was thinking

    Vikings v. Predator

    Precisely.

Thought this was a great little flick - it takes a while to get going but it's worth a watch. A mix of Beowulf / Predator / 13th Warrior / BotW.

It has some good action pieces, beautiful cinematography (filmed in Canada it seems) and a superb soundtrack. The CGI is a little ropey in places but works for the most part (the few offworld sequences there are, are great). Loved the monster design -
especially like the bit where it uses light to draw in its prey
and it seems they used anamitronics as much as they could which is commedable.

Caviezel and Hurt did a good job. As did Perlman
    all too briefly.

Lead actress is pretty hawt btw which is certainly no bad thing. Seems like she could be distantly related to Rachel Weisz.

    An 8/10 from me.

    Yeah, pretty sure it is.

Seen this film myself recently. Thought it was ok but was it just me or
did anyone else sympathise more with the Aliens than the humans. I mean they kill all of them to steal their planet. The last one escapes and is just trying to survive and raise it's child, so they go in, bludgeon the child then kill the mother. The Alien wasn't particularly evil, it didn't choose to be sent to this planet, it was only trying to survive.

main thing i remember from this film is that is really badly edited (and maybe poor script aswell)

though I did enjoy it enough that I wouldnt rant on about its problems.

Though a board.ie version of shields would be fun.

I thought this looked really, really bad/familiar, but I might just give it a look after reading this thread.

Definitely not the worst film you could rent this year.

Me too, what an excellent film. On Jupiter's moon, he is the only law.

It was crap lets face it, good concept but the delivery left alot to be desired.

Jesus wasn't into the role, wasn't convinced with his character, no emotion what so ever.

I liked Ron in this.... until he spoke.

Why in the name of jaysus were they putting on Irish accents ?

Oh and running around on shields for a drinking game?

    COME ON !
