Can anyone recommend good second hand clothes shops, preferably in Dublin Limerick or Galway as I have an outfit bought this summer for wedding that unfortunately, I will not wear again and would like to move it on. I paid 950 Euro for it in Galway City.....just wondering what I should be looking for it. I am not inclined to sell online....I would prefer to bring it to one of these shops and see what they get for it-less hassle for me anyway....in any case, it is a waste stuck in the wardrobe!!!!

2nd Avenue in Sandymount is brilliant for 2nd hand designer things, you need to go in regularly but selling things isnt great, you only get 50% of what it sells for. good luck

Both are very good. When I lved in Dublin I did a lot of buying and selling from second Avenue and in recent years have bought some great bags from Secret Closet, the lady is call Karen (I think) and is lovely.

They normally take a 50% cut but if you are not going to wear it again as well to get rid of it.

www.swopshop.ie is in temple bar and you can swap what you bring in for anything in the store for a small service charge, depending on whether you swap it for a similar item ie. highstreet or designer. they're doing a consignment offer soon where you get 80% of the sales price. they tend to go for designer, quite classic pieces, rather than like vintage type stuff in 9 crow st place in my experience.

Really, I just looked at their web site and it seems to be a lot of stuff form high street shops (H&M, M&S, Topshop). Can you just buy in there or do you have to exchange?

In Galway there's a place on Millstreet just after the garda station, can't quite remember the name of the place but they sell second hand outfits there so they may buy as well - aaghh, what is the name! Perfect Dear? Picture me darling? Well that's going to bother me now!

Edit: Don't Call Me Dear - phew now I can sleep

People that i have mention this to since my visit have all had the same experience with the shop... Dont know how they are still in Business... in this day and age they would really need to work on their customer service and take some kind of manners check course....

Thanks for the update on this place. A friend of mine from Galway was recommending this shop to me....but if that's what it is like, I think I will skip. I have a few more items of clothing which I think I will offload but the places in Dublin sound good.

I'd weigh up the comments on this thread before making my decisons..there has been a lot of good feedback and in my experience the ladies there are nice, firm in one instance that I saw because someone wanted her to take some Penneys clothes they brought in; she was quite firm and explained how they only take designer stuff..it's not a charity shop, it's there as a business.

I was in Limerick today and called to this shop. It has designer clothes, right enough, but none of it second-hand. They had some lovely clothes and the two ladies there were extremely friendly.
