Really want to buy a bike which is discontinued...

Ok, so having taken the advice of the learned people upon this board, and having done a bit of research myself. The Focus Cayo 2008 really seems to be the best value at £880.82, which converts to 976 Euro.

However, on the Wiggle site it seems the only framesize they have left in stock is 50 and all the others have been 'discontinued'. Now I've never been measured properly for a frame but according to the Wiggle size chart I should be looking for a 54 (I'm 5'7").

Does anyone know of anywhere else that sells this bike? Or, alternatively, perhaps measuring my inside leg might reveal that a 50 might suit after all?

    Do this.

Don't be tempted to get the wrong size. A good bike which fits badly is a bad bike.

I would be really surprised given your height that a 50cm would fit you unless you have an extremely strange torso & leg lenght combination.

54cm is probably right ... a 52 perhaps if you prefer riding a frame on the smaller side.

Don't go off investing 1000 euro on a wrong sized bike .... if the fit is wrong .. you won't ride it.

As for where else does them.... nowhere for this side of Europe I'm afraid. Focus are a German manufacturer who only sell bikes online, and Wiggle are the only UK/Ireland distributor :(

There's a few 2006/2007/2008 models on ebay.de . Could try and convince them to deliver to Ireland.

I haven't tried it out yet but this thread has details of how you can arrange your own courier - might be able to collect direct from the eBay seller so it seems worth a shot.

    You considered the 2009 model?

Lower spec, more money (It's dropped to 105 from Ultegra)

Only about €100 more and there isn't much of a diff between the two groups. At least they'll have the 2009 in stock.

Does blorg have one of these? I seem to recall a post about it being superseded by the fantabulous Litespeed, and that he might be open to offers. (I could be utterly wrong about that, of course.)

It's a 58 I think, and I don't know if he wants to sell it!

    Ultegra feels a lot nicer.

I like how the Campy man is saying there's not much difference :)

Yeah, I wasn't sure, I just thought I remembered reading something about it.

After recent admissions of Frankenstein drivetrains, I feel that the carbon-wrapped sheen of equipment superiority from El Assos is starting to look a little scuffed.

I have a 2008 Focus Cayo and its a 52cm and I'm same height, 5 7" ( I'm more pro euro so I prefer 171cm;)). Great bike. That size (52)came with a 90mm stem which I changed for a 110mm as I like to stretch out a little:) To be honest the 50 cm might be ok if you have short reach and you replace the stem for 110 or 120.Welcome to have a spin on my bike to test for size, just pm me.

Jaysus, that's very kind of you sy. I'm tempted to take you up on your offer. But first I think I should measure myself properly and do this as Lumen suggested. I'll do it this evening, then I'll see exactly how I measure up in terms of frame size.

How do you find the bike in general? Any problems/annoyances so far?

    Thanks again.

No problems. First venture into carbon frames, so didn't want to spend too much money but what a bargain. Only slight annoyance is that they run the cable thro the top tube and there is a little rattle when doing my Paris Roubaix routes:D. Defn your frame size is a 52 or less. My other bike is a 51cm frame. The top tube measurement is probably more important.

OK, so I did it, and here's what it came up with for me. I'm not really sure how to dumb those numbers down into one (i.e. 52 or 54 or whatever). Anyone care to interpret.....?

    Measurements
    Inseam: 28
    Trunk: 26
    Forearm: 14
    Arm: 28
    Thigh: 23
    Lower Leg: 20.5

    Seat tube range c-c: 46.0 - 46.5
    Seat tube range c-t: 47.5 - 48.0
    Top tube length: 56.7 - 57.1
    Stem Length: 11.2 - 11.8
    BB-Saddle Position: 60.6 - 62.6
    Saddle-Handlebar: 54.1 - 54.7
    Saddle Setback: 1.8 - 2.2

    The Eddy Fit (cm)
    Seat tube range c-c: 47.2 - 47.7
    Seat tube range c-t: 48.7 - 49.2

    Saddle Setback: 3.0 - 3.4

    The French Fit (cm)
    Seat tube range c-c: 48.9 - 49.4
    Seat tube range c-t: 50.4 - 50.9
    Top tube length: 57.9 - 58.3
    Stem Length: 10.3 - 10.9

Wasn't going to pull you up on it Tiny but:

Minus one Euro point for calling it "Campy" the Merican shortening of this Italian word.

Those numbers look a bit funny to me.

On the Focus Cayo geometry chart, top tube length is B (which would have you in a XL/58), whereas seat tube c-t is A (which would have you in a XS/50).

From the diagrams, it looks like Focus are using the method "the length that the seat tube would be if it was as high as the head tube". This is probably something like "seat tube centre-top equivalent", i.e. the length that the seat tube would be from centre of BB to top of top tube if the frame used traditional (horizontal top tube) geometry.

Having spent hours on Sunday trying to work out the geometry of a Cervelo RS from my own results, I'm no clearer.

Welcome to the hell of internet bike sizing.
