MTB Wheels

What think ye of these wheels? I only need a rear to replace the sh1te one I have at the moment (that one replaced the one stolen from me last year).

It's going on my Hardrock XC-it's my commuter bike and gets a fair bit of use. The front wheel's the original Alexrim that came with it and is in pretty good condition. Should I get the pair of wheels? My budget's not great and I've a fair bit of stuff to fix at the mo, but if the wheels are decent enough I'll make the stretch. I want the bike to last another few years.

    Many thanks!

Edit: Since posting the rear's gone out of stock, so now I'm looking at these

A hundred yoyos for a pair of disc compatable wheels - nothing wrong there at all really.

If you're inclined to save a bit more and go for something a wee bit more expensive the Mavic Crossride Wheelset link @ €141 is a Very Good set of wheels performing way beyond their price would suggest. And they look pretty sharp to boot

    Sorry, should've been more clear-they're V-Brakes, so I don't think they'd work?

I don't really have that much in the kitty, you see the wheel i'm replacing was a cheap temporary replacement for the original that was stolen. It's been breaking spokes since I got it, weighs 75tonnes and looks absolutely sh1t! I think getting it repaired would be throwing good money after bad, so I just want to get a somewhat decent wheel and get the thing moving smoothly again!

It's tricky enough to find a single rear wheel compatible with V-Brakes it seems. What do ya think of the BeOne set?

Do you only need a rear wheel?

change the rim option to the mavic xm317

    Grand wheel for under €50

Those cross rides have both disc splines and a braking surface so they'd be suitable for both.

If you're just looking for something to tide yourself over on a beater bike the BoOne wheels would be absolutely grand - at that price a pair of wheels looks like quite good value. And as Blanco suggests you could go for a single built wheel - maybe not the XM317 though (thats disc only) maybe a xm719 (it's in between the lightweight XM717 and the DH EX721 so a bit beefier but not so much heavier) making it ~€64.

Might be a better bet if you find yourself hard on equipment.

Are you sure? On the choose setup page the only hub you can select is a non-disc deore hub and it also says "2 - Rims for Non Disc Hubs ", which led me to believe this would be compatible with rim brakes. Also if you click into the link for the xm317 on the choose setup page
    http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=6005
it shows the rim brake compatible version, which doesn't have the word "disc" on the sticker unlike the disc version of the rim which chain reaction also stock

Again if I'm wrong I'm sorry! But maybe you might be better off spending the extra few quid to get the xm719 if as CheGuedara suggest you want something more durable!

Sorry, you're right - My mistake, didn't look at it close enough. The standard 317s would work fine.

I'd still err on the side of the more robust rim if I was in the habit of going through standard wheels though
