Dell Inspiron Battery - Dead.

First off, I've got a Dell Inspiron laptop, running XP SP3. It's ~2 years old and I have the extended 3 year hardware warrenty, i.e. parts are under warrenty for another year.

My situation is that my battery is fecked and has been for a while now. It will not charge and my laptop will not run unless it is plugged in to the adaptor. So I think I need a new battery.....
((At this point I'd like to mention that I looked at the Setup-utility(F2) when windows boot-up, no help there.))

However what i would like to know is if anybody out there who has experienced this before, did you get it replaced under warrenty? Or did they say something like "wear and tear etc etc...". I would like to know because I really do not want to ring Dell(for obvious reasons), unless I know they will replace the battery for free under the warrenty. They've already replaced the keyboard and I'm on my third power adaptor!
I accept that it depends on the laptop usage, but I would have thought I'd get more than two years out of it! I'm not on it all day, I never game on it or anything...

Anyway, if anyone knows if they'll replaced it under warrenty or can help me so I don't have to ring Dell EVER, I'd appreciate it.

    U.

Batteries are rarely replaced under warranty unless it's within a few months of buying it. The more you use a battery the more you kill it. Battery technology is just plain rubbish.

I'm really thinking about going back to Dell for a laptop (had a battery replaced 2 years after my warranty ran out).

I wonder if i told them the battery got really really hot.... They tend not to ask twice when there could be overheating batteries looming....

Why would you lie to them?

Battries by their design are going to deplete over time. This depends on useage and your recharging habbits.

Buy a new one where ever you get the best deal.

Dell batteries have a limited warranty. 1 year or some such. And even if you extend the warranty of the laptop, the battery stays at 1 year.

Very unlikely that they'll replace it under warranty unfortunately.

I got one off ebay before. It was useless, after 2 months it was giving less than an hour of charge.

why don't you just ring them and chance your luck, all they say is no however you may get a replacement battery out of it, however I think battery warranty is something daft like 6 months with dell
