Only tuned in 10 minutes ago. A bit late now, but there's a programme on now on BBC2 where 8 ordinary people are given a million dollars each and shown how to trade. Hopefully it's not real money!!! But it's very interesting so far. Currently Fannie & Freddie are collapsing and they're getting hammered!

It is real money! And it pretty clear even now who will be the first two to be sacked.

In fact, I was amazed they were shown so much patience, I can't see them lasting to the end of the next show.

Down £2,500 after two weeks. Not much money at all realy, maybe they will turn it around

Oh and it's not one million each, sure there eight of them.
The team get one million to invest and they start off slow with only £25,000 each and a max trade of £5,000

The story of 'The Turtles' springs to mind. And not the teenage mutant ninja kind!:D
Show sounds good though. Will definitely give it a look.

You made the right decision mate. Nothing should come between a man and Jack Bauer. Except maybe a bullet.:)

Anybody know if episode one will be repeated? I've checked the BBC2 website and it only gives Monday January 12th, 9pm as the broadcast time.

I've tried watching it back on the iPlayer but it tells me I can't as I'm not in the UK. I've tried Youtube as well but no luck. :(

The program is a bit of a joke to be honest. The amounts they are trading are minute, if they are only going to be holding the stock for a short period of time the volumes need to be much bigger. They also need to be working together, off the same strategy. They clearly weren't.

All these people has an interesting in trading before they went in so 1) trading in the wrong direction and 2) being too afraid to put on a trade and subsequently breaking down in tears are unforgivable. Where did they get these people.

Whilst I'm sure it's edited down quite a bit and was obviously recorded in very uncertain times only one of them seemed to show any sort of hedging strategy. Maybe this will develop over the course of the program but they may as well be at the races for what it's worth.

To watch it on the BBC iPlayer use a UK proxy.

thought it was quite well produced show, its hardly the most riveting subject matter to your average Joe but they made it entertaining. I agree the amounts of money is far too low.

can anyone point me in the right place on how to use a UK proxy for Iplayer on a Mac??

On again now. Pity it starts at 9pm as the finance on the 9 News is more exciting these days!

Checkout BBC2 tonight at 9PM (if you're not out and about).

Program on the Great Crash. There are some decent programs on BBC2 during the week lately around 9ish. Provide a great education for those who want to learn. There's a serious covering the whole financial crises on Wednsedays I think(can't think of name of hand) and the money programme had the VW Porsche short squeeze on Thrusday night.

Great program just there, greedy is a terrible thing. No doubt about that.

All these programs are part of BBC 2s 'The City Season'.

The City Uncovered is the one I think your talking about above.

The final episode of Million Dollar Traders is on tomorrow, not Monday like the other two parts.
    1.
    27 Jan 2009 21:00–22:00
    BBC Two
    Traders
3/3. By the final close of trading just three traders are left, but will they make a profit?

Sweet, cheers Bluetonic, I knew there was supposed to be something on at the same time as 24, just couldn't remember :D.

3 left, I'll guess at the scouser, the army lad and the mother. Indian lad, ecco lad and bottler girl weren't cut out for it. (sorry for the generalisations, just easier to identify them that way.)

I was a bit disappointed by the episode tonight. Very little detail on the final P&L of the fund but was surprised Emile walked as he had shown potential but its not exactly like he threw much away after seeing what had become of the final 3.
I would love to see an Irish version of the concept. If Bill Cullen could be the Master of the Apprentice could you only imagine who they would get to be Van Dam...lol!!

I thought it was interesting last night. What I got from it was how the dynamique of the group was affected by one person unable to control her emotions. Everything the traders said was pretty correct i.e. the poor performers were the ones to leave (apart from emile). He was too volatile though. The cream rose to the top.

Evan Davis on at 9PM tonighton BBC2 for the city programme and the great crash being shown again at 11:20 tonight if anyone missed last time.
