Hi folks. I'm running an Australia day night (oxymoron noted) in a bar in Dublin (Elegance, Ormond Quay if yer curious) and I want to get some popular Australian beers and snacks in for the occasion.

I'm basically posting for suggestions from any Australian ex-pats or Irlanders who were there what brands of beers would be a good choice for those in celebrating/homesick mode. Already have a rake of biltong to leave out for the night!

For cheap crap beer, go with VB.
For nice beer that doesn't taste of ashtray, go with Coopers Pale Ale.

For more info check this thread.

Definitely Cooper's Pale Ale. Don't get Cooper's sparkling ale unless you have a few extra bouncers on site, that stuff gets you rotten! You can buy it at McHugh's off licence in Kilbarrack, and they used to sell it in Superquinn too. I'm sure there are other places selling it now, it's a quality beer.

    Love Coopers Red. Yum!

Carlton Cold isn't too bad either. VB tastes like treacle.

If you can get your hands on Bundaberg Ginger Beer (no alcohol in it but by-gum its some tasty stuff!) and Bundaberg Dark rum. Oh yea, don't forget a few boxes of GOON!

No true blue 'stralian would ever have a party without the obligatory cask of Chateau de Cardboard :pac:

rofl! No need for glasses, so no cleaning up... makes perfect sense really. :D

If you want traditional Aussie beer, then it's VB and XXXX. Snacks- twisties, burger rings, cheezels and tubes. :)

I agree with the VB ... not sure about XXXX. You are not a Queenslander by any chance? :D

Btw are you coming for beers on Friday?

QLD? No, no... not that there's anything wrong with that.

Am I allowed to come to such? :o Not sure what my plans are, might pop in for a bit.

Coldies. Down two my last two bottles of the crates I bought when they were a euro a bottle...

Second the Tooheys Extra dry, great beer. Also Carlton Crown is beautiful. Of the cheaper stuff, Carlton Colds not bad. Queenslanders love their 4X too, not a big fan meself.

Tooheys Extra Dry is pretty fresh alright. Unfortunately I avoided it for most of my trip because I wrongly associated it too much with Tooheys New.

If the OP cant get Tooheys New in Ireland it can be home brewed using Dutch Gold with added filthy toilet water. What a chronically awful beer.
