Loads of photographers are flexible and will do photos with CD only, engagemnet shoots, trash the dress sessions, or include albums, prints, thank you cards etc...

Any photographer you talk to, tell them exactly what you want from them and get a price for that only. Of course we may try and sell you some additional services but that's no different from any business really.

Prices vary massively in wedding photography and it does take some skill to see which is the most suitable. Decide what you want, meet the people you're interested in, really look at the photos they show you, can you see the emotion of the day in them, can you see the people in the pictures being relaxed around the photographer.

Don't just look in your local area, most Irish based photographers will travel all over Ireland. Some photographers work with an assistant or partner (For me, it's me and my wife) which canmake the day easier on everyone as there's always somewhere in the right place at the right time and there's someone to wrangle people up if you're doing group portraits

    In general
    1) people who are cheap (under €1000), generally people staring off, don't have much experience, won't have insurance or backup equiopment, photos will be terrible to pretty good

    2) people who have average prices (€1000 - €2000) - have a little or quite a bit of experience, should have insurance, backup equipment and you'll get terrible to brilliant photos

    3) expensive photographers (€2000+) generally are full time professionals with good equipment, insurance, lots of experience. May be jaded or formulaic, or may be stunning contemporary artists. Photos will range again from bad to average to stunning.

Thats quite a pesimistic view isnt it dotorg....

I suppose each to their own me being a photographer might make me see it that way.

It is true if you get somone who has low prices they are often beginners in weddings but not always. What to watch out for is you are getting someone who specialises in weddings. I know photographers I would rate very highly who would never touch a wedding as it is so stressfull also I know some who have very low prices and very good shots.

There are some extemely expensive photographers out there that are amazing, yet there are others that are just ok. I have had some photographers tell me that my prices are too low that I should be charging min 1500 as some people just see a price tag.

Things to look for I think are first of all you like the photographers style, second of all you can afford them and see it is a worthwhile price tag for the service you are getting and thirdly which is extremely important, that you get along with them, if you do not like your photographer you will not connect with them during the shots.

    Hi Butty24,

Just pm'ed you with a recommendation for the guy who did my wedding in August 2008. Also, there's a sticky here with other recommendations if you want to check them out.

You'll find a huge difference in prices and packages if you check out photographers. You're better off checking out all of the recommendations you get on-line here as I found all the advise I got on this forum invaluable.

Best of luck organising your wedding.

Did you actually ask the photographers if they had to include the album as you didn't want one? I can't imagine them refusing to shoot your wedding for a fixed price and just give you the pictures
