Recruitment industry regulator.

What do you have to do to set a regulator up for an industry? I have said it many times that the Recruitment agencies need to be regulated, have rules and criteria they must follow to keep more than themselves happy. What is happening now is a complete and utter joke. "Apply now, we have lots of jobs for everyone", do they? No they don't, they actually have very little but giving false hope to many unemployed desperate people out there. It's simply not fair.

    What can be done exactly?

I take it you've never heard of the National Recruitment Federation?
The National Recruitment Federation is a voluntary body set up to establish and maintain standards and codes of practice for the recruitment industry in Ireland.

    Self-regulation is no regulation.

Hopefully one of the benefits of the current downturn will be the death of the recruitment agency.

Im a Snr Recruitment Consultant in Dublin and I totally agree with whats being said about the fake jobs advertised. I think those agencies that do that should be bloody destroyed.

The one I work for doesnt do it - i certainly would NOT work for an agency who did something like this. Its so misleading and unfair to people looking for work - getting their hopes up like that. Alot of my candidates tell me their horror stories that they're even called in to interview for the role and its magicially been filled. its a disgrace and it gives us good agencies (who actually care about job seekers) a bad name.

Who do you regard as the good agencies?

Well that's happened me a few times, it's annoying, it's a waste of time and money, I have lots of time, but very very little money.

Eh, it's not only the ones who find you work, but the ones who actually help you. I rang about a job I applied for the other day. The man (only male I have dealt with in the past 8 months, maybe that has something to do with it?) gave me advice, he offered to hold mock interviews with me and help with any job I was going for, it didn't matter if it was advertised with his company or not, I felt like he genuinely wanted to help... Fair play to him. All the rest can rot in hell. Bastards!!! (sorry Godeas)

You think agencies should not only help you find work, but help you in general, e.g. mock interviews, etc. even if you won't be using their service to get a job?

And they should do all this for free...?

You do know they aren't a public service (they're businesses like any other business) and they only make money when an employer hires someone off their books?

well, I don't think too many recruiters have much "real" work to be doing lately.

So perhaps by keeping their mock interview skills sharp and so on, iamxavier is providing them with something. They have no obligation to provide that sort of help to everyone (or anyone) but the fact that they are willing to would make me more likely to use them.

Just treating applicants like human beings rather than commodities would be a start for most agencies, though.
