    Hi,

I know there's loads of similar threads at the moment but here's my question.

I have been living in the UK for the last year and moved home in November. I worked in Ireland from November to January as a Christmas temp in my old job but they weren't able to keep me on.

I am intending to sign on next week as soon the bank post me a statement with my new address on it so I have proof of where I live.

All well and good until I mentioned it to my mother who assures me that I won't get any benefits due to my being "young enough to get a job" and only being employed as a Christmas temp in my last job.

Is there any truth in this?

    Thanks.

There is no Jobseekers Benefit in Ireland, it's Unemployment Benefit.

If you fit the criteria here then you get it, it's a simple yes or no decision.

Being "young enough to get a job" has nothing to do with qualifying, if your out of work your out of work!

Theyll check if you have enough contributions to get benefit (think their working off the 07 tax year at the moment), if not youll have to apply for assistance, thatll be means tested.
