    So Jacks back then.

As is Tony and not on the good side it seems!

So CTU is disbanded and Jack is in front of a senate committee for things he did during his time at CTU.

Very very medicore opening double for me. I'm hoping the next 2 hours pull something special out to keep me entertained rather than me just watching for the sake of it like.

Having only seen the first 15 minutes so far (I'll watch the first two hours later), I think that this has potential to be good. Probably not Season 1 or 2 good, but easily better than 6.

    I'm excited now...

Well s06 had the potential to be great after a fantastic opening 4 eps...

Ye was only a mediocre opening 2 hours for me as well. Just didn't seem like normal 24,which I guess in the long run could be a good thing. Getting rid of CTU was a good idea. It just wasn't that exciting as 24 can be.

Also didn't like how they already killed off the president's son and her husband will now go on a crusade that will probably get him killed. At the end of redemption they said the son wasn't a problem. He could have obviously dug deeper into whatever his friend found but I thought that would happen in this season.

This after 1 hour 15 mins.......

I'll reserve judgement for a few more episodes but have to admit am underwhelmed so far.....seems to be more scarily right wing American themes running through it, like Jacks defense of torture methods at the hearing (sounds like a defence of guantanamo bay), more UN bashing.

Good to see Tony though. Does it look to anyone else that CTU has just been replaced with an airy FBI office? Even seems to have it's own Chloe (that odd chick with the glasses).

I didn't like last season's opening with the nuke going off. It left the show with nowhere to go really.

Much slower build up in the opening 2 episodes this time.

Still funny catching all the faces from other shows.

Janeane Garofalo and a clean shaven Billy Walsh from Entourage in the FBI office. One of the soldiers from Band of Brothers working at the White House.

Wasn't as bad as I thought... although the second part was a bit boring alright.
But compared to the first 6 days, there is a different feel to it.

Gosh, and an annoying one too.. Chloe meets "Ugly Betty"... :-)

Good to know the real Cloe will be back.. (and a number of other old faces too... if you trust the full cast list on imdb)
I have a fairly good idea about what all of them may have been up to....

The FBI agent is a babe though. Noticed John Billingsly from Enterprise too.

Solid opening, just finished watching it, defo some repeating themes regarding Jack. Very surprised they got Tony this early and very surprised some backward African rebel leader has masterminded the attacks.

I liked it, much better pacing than any of the recent efforts, and not too overblown.

I am curious as to what they will do with Tony now. I'm not believing the Jack/Tony camraderie element though, I never got the impression from past seasons that their relationship was like that, so that was a little weak.

At least they remembered one thing: 24 does not need an Edgar Stiles ever again

Yeah usually 24 makes you think someone is behind the attacks for the first few episodes before revealing the real mastermind later on. I expect something similiar this time.

Thanks be to God, Jack Bauer has returned. That was a very long wait only 22 episodes to go. Can't wait for next week,

I thought it was a decent opening - very surprised to see them catch up with Tony already, but I expect a twist (or ten!) very soon on that. I'm also a bit surprised with just how much this relied on "Redemption" - I initially thought that was going to be more of a standalone story, with only a couple of plot elements really coming into season 7, but it seems pretty much the whole thing carries over. It would be pretty confusing to watch the first couple of episodes without having watched "Redemption" first...

It does feel different, mostly due to the lack of CTU, but that's not a bad thing IMO. I'd much prefer the season to start slowly and build up, rather than go the way of season 6, so I'm finding it pretty good so far.

    One question though:
isn't the guy from Sangala (sp?) that shows up in the US and is in cahoots with Tony's group/boss, the same guy that caught up with Robert Carlyle's character in "Redeption" when he was standing on a mine? So why is he not dead?... I'm pretty sure it was him, he even mentioned his dead brother, whom Jack killed back at the attack on the school...

I got done watching this on sunday and then on monday I turn on the telly after dinner only to find that on monday Fox aired episodes 3 and 4 as well without much notice at all. I was left totally unprepared, and missed the 3rd. by the 4th youre thinking wtf just happened? grr.

Glad to see jack back actually. The long break was needed though, as the plots started feeling a little weak and wrung out by day 6. Plus redemption helped newcomers get on board with the show.

Need to watch Redemption again now!
I was surprised to see how much carried over from it.
Still Jack is back so IMO that deserved a 9. This still has great places to go i think! Do you think jack can make it back to africa in an hour!!?

I was a bit surprised that tony was got so soon. You do miss cutting back to the dark CTU office all the time.

Hoping it just gets better anyway.

I like the new direction they've taken although it is a bit of a slow burner thus far, despite having ripped off the storyline from die hard 4 so far :D
Ah I miss the CTU ringing tone :(

    Jack's back \o/ 4 hours of Jack \o/

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,297 ✭✭✭Ron DMC

Why didn't the FAA realise that they could simply have broadcast to the planes flying over Washington Dulles International JFK Airport by changing the signal being broadcast by the outer markers.
I mean, they probably wouldn't have figured it out in time to save Colm Meaney's plane GSA 117, but the rest could probably have been saved.

John McClane Jack Bauer would probably need to blow up Esperanza's Colonel Dubaku's plane with Major Grant and his team the FBI mole on board. That way the planes at Dulles JFK airport could follow the flaming wreckage down to land.

Problem solved, and could probably be neatly tied up in two hours as opposed to 24.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 861 ✭✭✭deaddonkey

Also, when GSA 117 is told to descend, he firewalls the throttles and the plane dives, and when told to go around, he pulls right back and the plane rises off.

I'd have though multi million dollar hollywood could do better.

    :D

That's a good synopsis there, Ronny. It's like, you know what's going to happen, before it happens, somehow...

Not bad, if a tad slow. The non-crashing of planes was a bit strange. Showing that maybe Tony is not a cold blooded terrorist after all? The slower pace might actually be a good thing, as last season burned out far to quickly. Even the nuke, at the end of episode 4, was forgotten about within a few hours.

I'm cautiously optimistic, even if it is just a mash up of various Die Hard films.

Great to see Jack back. It was slow start compared to previous seasons though. This could be a good thing based on Day 6. It didn't take long for Jack to be pulled out of court and sent after terrorists. They could have got more milleage out of Jack in court. Perhaps the likes of Bill Buchanan/Karen will testify later on?

Evil Tony was pretty funny - his facial hair is as much a star as he is and he has mastered the menancing scowl.

I don't miss CTU at all. Axing it was a good decision to make although the FBI could turn into a carbon copy. Even the new chick with glasses is a little like Chloe. The other new characters seem good too - particularly the president.

Wasn't it that Jack trusted Tony? I mean how many people has Jack ever trusted? Tony& Michelle helped Jack to disappear that time when they faked his death so there's definitley a bond there (was)

He looked really hurt when he was face to face with Tony, awwww!

Good, not amazing or anything, but usually the first couple of episodes for me are like - oh, they're not doing this anymore, and oh, it's like this now..

I reckon the cute-ish FBI agent's boss is up to something..

Nope, it wasn't - the brother was the guy that Jack killed at the attack on the school. This guy, colonel Dubaku, was chasing them on the way to the embassy and was there when Carlyle's character set off the mine... but apparently, there is an explanation according to tvsquad.com:
Also, for those who thought Benton killed Dubaku with that mine in Redemption ... then you need to see the extended version on DVD. He survived the explosion. I'm surprised there was no explanation...

    http://www.tvsquad.com/2009/01/11/24-9-00am-10-00am/

A bit lame that something important like that would only be in the extended DVD cut...

I really enjoyed the opening two episodes, it's been so long! As expected, Tony's allegiance isn't black and white. The brief confrontation between him and Jack was great, I'm intrigued as to how he'll act in FBI custody. I really hope we see him and Jack working together at some point in the season.

Not sure about the First Gentleman's storyline yet, it better pick up some pace soon. The Presidential storyline is better (so far) then in Season 6, hopefully it'll continue to be that way. I wouldn't mind a status update on Wayne though!

There were a lot of familiar faces in those two hours :)

John Billingsley - Latham (also played the doctor in star trek:ent)
Dameon Clarke - Tanner (also played t-bags boss in prison break)
Peter Wingfield - Emerson (always be Tanith to me. Love to hate the guy :) )

I imagine we'll see more of Kurtwood Smith, we have to, right?

Wasn't that surprised it took a lot of stuff from Redemption. That's the way they set it up after all.

I thought I had seen the extended version of Redemption but don't remember Dubaku being alive so maybe not.

Great to see Tony back, can't shake the feeling he's working undercover or he's not so bad as it appears.

New FBI setup is so bright, not the dark and seedy CTU world we're used to :D

Overall it was a good start, I didn't expect the presidents son to be killed off already(maybe the actor wanted too much cash or was busy) but still a good side story anyway.

I only saw the broadcast Redemption, but I took it he survived. Carlyle kept trying to get him to come closer, then he copped something was up, so Carlyle set the mine off - but he was a fair bit away, it was never clear that he was killed.

Which boos? His "Cole Pfeiffer" boss? Thought he was older.

Was a bit confused at first about the son thing, especially since I couldn't remember what happened to him in Redemption. Only copped just before it started that obviously it couldn't continue directly after Redemption, or Jack would spend most of the season in the air from Sangala - any idea how much time has passed since Redemption?

    Didn't Redemption just have
the son's mate (who worked with the girlfriend?) sending an e-mail to the son, then getting killed, on inauguration day? And that was abuot it as far as the son went?

To all who mentioned Redemption ties deeply into the series - you have to remember Redemption was a retrograde prequel, done after Season 7 was finshed filming (the first episodes of Season 7 would have been in principal photography in July-August 2007 at the very lastest).

Of course, just about everyone knows that this season was pushed back a whole year. Redemption is impressive in how well they found ways to tie into the existing story.

Well, Redemption is supposed to be 3 yrs and 6 months after the events of Day 6.

And I've read somewhere that this new season is exactly 4 yrs after the 6th season.

So i guess that means 6 months have passed between Redemption and these new eps.

Have only watched these first 2 episodes so far. Its pretty promising. I'm getting a strong baddie-vibe off the secret service agent that's detailed to the First Husband.

Damn RTÉ showing one episode at a time  It is bad enough that we have wait so long and that it is on at 12

I should get Jack Bauer after them :)

Well Hour 1 what did I think, Haven't read the above since I haven't seen Hour 2

I thought they could have let Jack speak at the committee meeting headed up by Red (Kick your Ass) Foreman :) while had Tony and the FBI fight it out with the Pres planning to invade some African Country (Fairly certain they didn't mention it by name).

Why did they just transplant all of the characters from CTU into the FBI and have them played by different actors, it is like Bizzaro 24.

I thought the opening scene was good with the girl and her father, however her father working on the hardware was total unrealistic (but this is 24 so I will forgive them).

There is no way that Jack would have told the committee that he "was proud of what he had done" he was crying about it at the end of season 3.

    Good over all. :)

Jack is Back.... well on RTÉ.

Will I stick with RTÉ, I don't know. When is the DVD available.

The scriptwriters don't know what's happening with the Presidents Son, having taken them 30mins to return to that storyline.

I think bring the Tony and the Africans is a bit too simple.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,379 ✭✭✭thebigcheese22

I thought it was a good solid start, just really glad its back after a year and a half without it on terrestrial television! When I saw Tony working for the bad guys I was thinking he has to be undercover, but 24 is never as simple as that...which is why I love the show tbh! Looking forward to seeing Jon Voight playing a baddy as well :)
