Hate the vocals on the first one. But it's probably a performance issue more than a mixing one. Same for the second one. Snare soounds like a piccolo?

The vocal performance does seem weak on the first track. The vocal also seems like a perfect candidate for compression to help it sit in the track better.

oh ill have to agree thats the best i could do with the vocals on this,

the mic i used was a tbone sct 700......oh how i despise t.bone it was all i had to make do with,

the snare was just dampenned and when i opted to take the dampner ring there was growls at the teeth

    Well,
I'd say some of the most impressive stuff I've seen in a studio is not in technical expertise but psycology. You'd need to have a few tricks up your sleeve to convince artists to play in a way that sounds good when being recorded.

"I think you've a better take in you..." is one of the most used, but still one of my favourites.

The singer needs to give it more welly... so you could just blast the cans at him... and see if he sings louder. The tone will change if he puts more into the singing. It's a bit lacklustre at the moment.

Is there some sort of gating on the drums? You should have got Ringo to play. The guitars sound a bit def leopard to me, that is to say, the settings are a bit dated. Most of this is stuff that's not desk or mic related. If the band sound good in the live room... the engineers job will always be easier.

I heard Phil Spector used to carry a handgun into the studio. That might have been useful in the case of your snare sound.

It's all a matter of taste.

    Keith

Not bad, but as the guys said the vocals need a bit of work, the bass sounds a little weedy too to be honest, for that style it could do with a bit more low end.
Did you do much production on the track yourself?

I'm not saying the snare is bad...I was just expecting something fatter with a little more rattle. I like the drum track alot. As it is, with the guitars, it sounds a little Police-ish...although that's possibly being a bit too kind!

Having another good listen now. As was stated, there are significant performance issues - vocals are pitchy in spots and he's holding back waaay too much! Brick wall that bad boy and get some air in there! :D The bass seems quite staccato and is a little too similar to the guitar; none of which is your fault of course, but it's probably hampering an objective critique of the mix. If you're at a complete loss with the vocals, you could always try the ol' overdriven, lo-fi, lead vocal trick - think 'Spoonman' by Soundgarden.

As for the second tune - yeah, same issues with the vocals, seem very much in need of compression. I like the lead guitar motiffe but I'd make it a little wetter for that '60's surf' vibe that's being hinted at. And I'd boost the snare a little, when the other instruments drop out, the snare fills sound a little week (0.16, for example)

The above is just my 0.2 cents, and I know pretty much nothing about mixing etiquette.
