Questions on Sat4Free.......

My parents live in Wexford and rely on a traditional aerial for their tv. The reception is pretty crappy, and often totally unwatchable. Shame cause I bought them a nice Samsung 32" but almost pointless with crap reception/

I was in Tesco and saw the www.sat4free.ie offer which looks like it might be perfect for them. Basically they do not want anything complicated and won't pay a subscription which is why Sky is a no-no. This looks good though. However, am I right in saying that RTE1 & 2 are not included? THis is a problem. Even telling them they would be getting loads of extra channels, if they can't get bog 1 and 2 they are not interested.

Also they have a tv in another room, and the beroom too. Can they get the channels there too, how does it work?

    Advise appreciated
    Cheers

RTÉ, TV3 and TG4 are only available on satellite with an active Sky subscription.

Enniscorthy and New ross are cable tv towns, Gorey, Wexford and Bunclody rely on Aerial and Satellite for reception. Check with local installers to see what options are available for your parents.

As said, the Irish channels are not available on Sat4Free. I have the UK equivalent freesat and think it is an excellent product.

If they wanted the channels in another room, they would be best going with another box in another room.

Take a look at the sticky at the top to find local suppliers. You might find them offering the UK box cheaper...

Or if you REALLY desparate for RTE1, RTE2 and TG4 (TV3 is not much different to ITV/UTV available free on Satellite), a basic Sky sub (€19? per month) gives them perfect.

Bigger Aerial on bigger pole for RTE and Dish / Sat4free for all the others.

UKs freesat is more flexible and a better product.

Yes, slightly, though for most people there is no difference (Sat4free is NI postcode locked).

    but neither has RTE /TV3/TG4

I agree, Ive written off the dream of being able to get RTE etc free on digital now. Its a real shame, because of this im barely watching any of the irish channels now. I listen to the radio for news/weather. I know a lot of people here in the country areas who watch more UK TV then Irish as signal is not great. One of the biggest things i noticed this christmas was a lot of people were calling "Stephens day" boxing day! When i asked them why they were saying Boxing day, they replied its becasue thats what they call it on the TV!
