Can i wire a plasma TV directly to my PC?

First off: I Don't know if this is the right place for this or not. But it seems more computer related than TV related, so i thought i'd put it here.

I have a PC (Hewlett Packard; Model: a6355.uk) (i don't know if the model number is relevant or not, but i thought i'd post it anyway, does no harm to be sure) and i watch a lot of TV shows and films on my PC.

However, i sit at a desk and with the layout of the room, i can't move very far back from the monitor when watching programs, and it tends to get a little sore on the eyes.

So i plan to buy a TV. I was gonna get a 42" plasma screen TV, and i was wondering, is it possible to connect my PC directly to my plasma, and use it as though it were another monitor?

I've often seen people using two monitors, and what they do is drag a program out of the screen, and it appears in the second monitor. Ideally, I'd love to be able to do that with the plasma. I'd never actually use it for general computing, but i'd like to be able to just drag GomPlayer (the media player i use on my pc) over to the plasma and full-screen it there (So i can avoid the hassle of DVD players, etc.) but I'm not fully sure if its possible or not.

I'd also like to be able to wire an X-Box 360 to it (I rarely use it, but just for the sake of it)

can anyone let me know if such a thing is possible?

If its not possible, can you recommend anything that i could do? and if it is possible, can anyone tell me what kinda wire i'd need? (i have a HDMI slot on the back of the PC, but i don't know if that would be helpful or not?)

Huge thanks in advance to anyone that can help me out here. :)

all of this is possible. As I said in my other reply to you, you need a HDMI cable. This will output from your PC into the back of your 42" plasma (I'd recommend a LCD though as they've better response times for computing). On your PC display settings (Control panel/Display settings) you can select which disply to use - your monitor, your tv or both - with different things on each display or the same thing on each display.

Don't suppose you have a link? I restarted Firefox earlier and all of my bookmarks, etc. seem to have been erased :(

    One further question:

If i set it up to have the TV as the second monitor, id only be using it to watch stuff on and not general computer activities, as i say above. Will turning the TV on/off interfere with the computer? (as i'd obviously not want to have it turned on when im not using it).

I don't know much about this kinda stuff, as i say, but i've heard of people having trouble where the TV won't recognise the PC? (or something to that effect)

Thanks for the help newbie. I appreciate it all :)

All new TV's should recognise your PC if you connect via HDMI. The only problem is if our PC doesn't recognise your TV, but if your graphics card has a HDMI out then this shouldn't be a problem.

Turning off one of your displays will not affect your PC.
