[** SPOILERS FOR SEASON 2 BEGIN BELOW **]

Shattered so couldn't make it through the whole episode.. but enjoyed what I saw.

William Hurt is always great.. and Timothy Olyphant is a worthy cast addition (despite reading about how much of an arsehole he is in Kevin Smith's book).

But the opening (that we're building up to - starting 6 months before) didn't really pump me up as much as the season 1 opening did. But like I said, I only saw the first half hour so hope there's more revealed of that before the episode ends.

I saw it earlier and thought it was great, after a slow start. Rose Byrne does, however, look anorexic. Maybe having your fiancé murdered and an attempt made on your life does lead to weight loss.

Glenn Close was superb as ever, manipulating a situation to get her charitable foundation up and running. You never know just how much she knows and controls. And Ted Danson and Anastasia Griffith are/ will be back, along with new characters from William Hurt, Marcia Gay Harden (no sign except on credits) and Timothy Olyphant.

The final scenes really set up the story for future weeks, but I wonder if the FBI plot will get in the way.

David, the fiancé continues to appear in flashbacks, and there is one other surprise appearance too!!!

I'm not normally one for tv series. Could never get hooked on Lost, Sopranos etc but Damages absolutely rocked my world.

So series 2 is starting in the States. How long til it's shown in Ireland and what's the story with downloading it before then (legally of course)? Any websites such as itunes that do that?

    Thanks,

    K.

Enjoyed this, although I do wonder if it can live up to the first series, especially as the novelty of the time-jump format might wear off. I'm glad to see Patty Hearst is still a bitch and Ellen really looks wasted - nobody's happy in this series...

Anyone want to hazard a guess as to who Ellen is talking to in the flash forward? Current guess:
Patty Hearst and the gun is fired to the usual side of her head, just to scare her
. Of course if I'm right then it's not as immediately satisfying as we can already see how that ending came about so there's not much to reveal.

    Could be
    Patty alright ixoy
    . I've a slight suspicion it's gonna be
    Frobisher though
    ..

    ..
I know it's a bit obvious but Patty would be even equally so. I've a feeling over the next 11 episodes that she'll regret her decision to "forgive" Frobisher.

Season 2 split off from Season 1 thread....

Looks like it's starting on RTÉ 2 at 9.55 on Friday 23 January.

Sorry, don't have a link, it's in the NI Edition of the Radio Times.

Kudos to RTÉ2 for getting it quickly... and putting it on at a respectable time.

The time isn't bad but the day is ****e.

Fridays are for drinking. Or the Late Late. Nothing else.

I can't believe you actually included the Late Late in that statement..! :D

I wasn't as impressed with the second part. While there is still that game of poker going on (does Patty suspect what Ellen is up to?), and Marcia Gay Harden's lawyer looks interesting, it didn't twist and turn like every episode did last year (until the end). And Ted Danson gone from the credits so it mustn't be Frobisher Ellen is after!

As an aside, I would also like to ask what anti-aging creams Timothy Olyphant uses - he's the youngest looking 40yr old I've ever seen!

Is Ted Danson in Season 2?

    Yes...

Ted Danson? Well looks like it's only for episode 1. Although the credits are a bit strange; Katie Connor has only appeared briefly in one of the four episodes and Timothy Olyphant hasn't been seen for a fortnight.

But what an episode! Finally the show sparked into life and twisted and turned in a most unexpected way and now once again I cannot wait to see where this goes next whereas up to now I've been waiting for things to get going.

Ellen watch: Still painfully thin. But she looks healthier in the 5 months later segment:confused:

Great final twist there wasn't it? It had me going "Huh?!" and wondering about all the new implications.

I'm also starting to dig more the flash forwards and who Ellen is with. My mind keeps jumping from person to person each week as new evidence unfolds, which must be a good thing.

I don't though feel that the evil side of Patty Hewes is coming across enough yet - now maybe it has still to come, but I think we're seeing a bit more of her nice side than needed. Don't get me wrong, I love the fact her character is shaded grey and, like Vic McKay in "The Shield", you don't know how to feel about her, but more of her bite would be good.

Anyone else watch the show in bulk for S1 and now also finding it a bit weird getting in the "drip" format of regular weekly tv?

Another great episode, after a far from promising start (after the Purcell revelation, I thought it took ages to get going). Wes suddenly became a central character, and can we now assume he is in cahoots with Frobisher, given his association with David's killer. But if this is the case, I don't understand why he was encouraging Ellen to get revenge in the early stages unless Frobisher screwed Robocop over. And where the hell is Katie Connor and what has she to do with this year's story??? Presumably Phil's mistress is working with UNL as she deftly distracted him from the accounting anomaly he found in the annual report. Lots to think about as usual.

Agreed - piling on the twists now and I keep re-interpreting the "Five months later" scene in light of them. Wes is now back in play and I'm curious as to what he's up to. I also loved the cat and mouse game between Ellen and Patty and how close she came to being uncovered. Last two episodes have really picked up the pace to the level I recall from season one.

Bit slower this week but it's good to see how they've roped Frobisher back in. Ellen is going to go ape when she finds out.
Liked the more minor characters this week too - that Evil Paul Giamatti cop is great but he still isn't half as freaky as that cold killer (the one who uses chapstick for his lips) that Kendrick employs.

Oh and anyone else get a vibe of 'The Wire' when Rawls and Freamon shared a scene together :)

Yep and it invites comparisons between the shows with Damages not faring too well.
It seems the writers have gone overboard this year trying to cram waaaaaaaay too many twists in. We're also half way through the season and there's no case yet.

However episode 5 was very good and the apparent twist that
Patty might not have been responsible for the hit on Ellen seems like it will be a game changer.

It seems the FBI sent their two most incompetent agents to work with Ellen seeing as they never seem to do anything and have conversations with their source on the street just outside the offices of their target :D.

Thought the latest episode (Episode 8 - "They Had to Tweeze That Out of My Kidney") was several notches better than anything so far this season.
We finally get to see who's in the hotel room with Ellen
(Patty - and she's looking terrified)
    .

Who else thought that Patty had ordered
the hit on Uncle Pete with the simultaneous mobile phone calls
    ?

Looking forward to how this season pans out now :).

I thought it was so so until the end. There really is too much going on in this series; William Hurt has disappeared, there's still no case at the centre of things, and I didn't like Phil going behind Patti's back and dealing in UNR stock - surely he's been with her long enough to know she wins her cases! Of course I am still gripped as to what is going to happen to get to the endpoint, but I preferred the first series.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,722 ✭✭✭anotherlostie

So did anyone stick with this series to the end this week? Certainly not as gripping as Season 1, but last night's finale had me on the edge of the edge of my seat. The way in which everything worked out for Patti (apart from the cokehead trader bit) was contrived, and I'm going to have to watch it again to see why Tom flipped back; we already had his mock sacking in the first run, so not sure what was going on this time, but as Patti schemed with just about everyone, I was hooked.

Farewell to Marcia Gay Harden and William Hurt (who apparently detested the rapid pace of filming on TV). I'll still be watching when it comes back next year.

I thought it was hugely entertaining finale. So much happened. You have to wonder where it goes from here, though? They pretty much wrapped up the past two seasons worth of storylines in that episode. If I didn't already know a third season was on the way, I would have thought that was the very final episode of the show.

Wow wow wow, just finished watching this season and i loved it had me hooked. I don't get why so few people here watch it.
Ok there were too many twists and it would have been nice if there was one case for us to focus on but Patti Hewes has to be one of the best written characters on tv at the moment.
I thought Marcia Gay Harden was great. Roll on season 3 any news on when its due to air in the US - probably Jan/Feb next year.

Not sure it possibly begins in the US in Sept/Oct and take a break and returns in Jan/Feb but I don't know how FX work their Schedule, that generally how shows are spread across a season e.g. 09/10.

AFAIK it's like Lost, running its season continuously, in this case for 13 weeks, which means we won't see S3 for 9 months. Sob...

Loved Marcia Gay Harden's character too; pity they couldn't bring her back.

There's a third season?! It's going to be difficult after the wrap up here - I'm going to make a guess and say Ellen is now working full-time for the Justice Department and will be actively, and openly, trying to take down Patti.

I did like how Patti took control here - how she slammed down Finn Gerety, how she turfed Michael out... you do not mess with Patti. I did find the twist of her being on it a little too handy but then she's smart and it's not a stretch to think she'd pull it off. I do wonder though how she convinced Tom to come back to her after screwing her over - maybe that's something for next year?

I'm also not too sure why Ellen went on to bribe the judge or let Patty off so easily. She said she wanted her to live with her mistakes but wouldn't she feel better if she lived with those mistakes in jail?

Couple of things left hanging - is that it for Frobisher? It was a bit of a cursory appearance so was it only for closure and show how he's reformed? Is Wes similarily reformed or will his dark nature (and earlier complicity) come back - I'm assuming we'll see more of him taking out Messer.

Season wasn't as good as the first but I still enjoyed it and it's good to see another show that doesn't insult the viewers intelligence and is content to try one story over a full season.

Great show. Marathoned season 1 a month or so ago, and was hooked. Season 2 , I got really excited for when I heard two of my favourite character actors, Timothy Olyphant and William Hurt would be joining. Its not been as exciting as season 1 though, and seems to be relying on the deus ex machine a bit too much. Still, will be interesting to see who they bring in to star in season 3.

Missed fri 17th nights show there on rte2. Anyone know where I can get to see this?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,683 ✭✭✭DeepBlue

The finale was great but some parts didn't make much sense - such as why did Tom give Ellen a gun when she knew she was pissed at Patti and wasn't in on plan to entrap Lester and Rawls?

Seemingly Hurt's alcoholism caused some issues on set and it wouldn't surprise me if his storyline was re-written as the series progressed. His wife's murder seemed like it would be a much larger part of the plot early on but was pretty much discarded for most of the rest of the series with some token references at the end.

All in all it was pretty ok but a marked step down in quality from last season. Hopefully they can raise the bar again in season three. As things stand it seems the only way they can bring the same cast back is if Ellen and Patti are on different sides of the same case.
