Would James Holden and Nathan Fake be regarded as experimental?

I haven't heard of em, just listened to a few clips on youtube and after a first impression my own opinion would be no. But if you or anyone else feel they are, feel free to talk about why!

suppose they could be considered experimental in and around the genre they appeal too, i know holden has some pretty weird stuff and nathan fake does alot of downtempo/ambient tracks ala boards of canada, but they are not doing anything ground breaking or unique, i mean i wouldnt put them up there with coil or richard devine or faust.

No in my opinion, even though I like the pair of them, they're bundled in with the rest of the minimal scene. Nothing ground breaking or new, just a mixture of what was done before. Still good though, Nathan Fake to a lesser extent.

Well I'm not too familiar with my techno and when I happened across them I hadn't really encountered much like it. I really like their music, Holden more alright but Fake's stuff isn't without it's charm.

I only categorise music into 'like' and 'dont like' :D

'Underberg' fits into the former category for me, as does a lot of Nathan Fake's stuff (might be too full on for some). I love 'the sky was pink' too but not the Holden version.

Never really got into James Holden though.
