RTE Teletext

I haven't seen any mention of this lately. Is RTE still broadcasting text with their Satelite signal. I haven't received it in years now. I seem to remember there was an issue with it where only a rebooted sky box would display it. A rebooted sky box at present doesn't seem to display any text.

Press TV button and it releases the lock. Then you can access aertel, works for me.

I used to have problems with this too when I had my digibox going through my Panasonic dvd-recorder. Wouldn't work at all. But when I changed to a Pioneer model, worked fine. Now have a Sky+ box and it still works fine.

    Works for me.

Yep, mine still works too, though I notice that 'Five Text' is quite slow at loading up. If I move from RTÉ to Five (in other channels), the Aertel page is still in the memory and takes a while to change to Five's text page.

Analogue teletext (Aertel) is not available if you have your Sky HD box plugged in with a HDMI cable to your tele, as HDMI doesn't carry it.

Try SCART from your Sky box to your TV, then see if you can get Aertel.

You can have both hooked up at the same time and flick back and forth.

It also doesn't work if your Sky box is set to RGB SCART. Pressing the TV button on the Sky remote switches the picture back to PAL and it should be accessible then.

My old grundig box suffers from this problem.
reboot usualy fixes it for a while.

But no problem with amstrad or Panasonic boxes.

Getting Text OK now on non HD box using the TV button first. HD connected via HDMI and therefore not enabled.
I wonder if RTE were paying for their slot would they accept anything less than a properly configured service which includes Teletext or is it something to do with the text button in Sky mode reacting with the box software to open digital text, which it does on any channel carrying such text.
As RTE don't use digital text on satelite - maybe this is the reason.

I'm not sure if I completely understand your post but if the Sky box is set to PAL then the teletext should be usable all the time (though you'd need to use the TV remote unless you press the TV button on the Sky remote). In RGB mode the text is unavailable. One of the Lidl FTA receivers transmits teletext on RGB but it's badly corrupted - I think it's not possible to transmit teletext cleanly on RGB which is why the Sky box disables it.
