A lot more information is required before these questions can be answered.

    Such as:
What type of construction is the house?? (timeber frame, block)
    How big?
    How many windows and doors?
    Is it dry lined?
    How many floors?
What level of security do you want?

There are many good wired systems out there such as HKC, Astec etc. Wired systems are favoured in general. But sometimes it is better to use wireless a alarm system if it is simply too hard to wire.

    house is timberframed,
    semi-d
    downstairs secured only,
    sitting room window,
    kitchen window,
    patio door,
    front door.
    walls are drylined

Would be anywhere form €1000 to €1800 for a professionally installed system.
Generally we would survey to see how it could be wired or if some wireless or all wireless would be a better option.

You should ring 3 companies , get them to come to your house and do a survey/risk assessment. Each will give a written quote and specification and you can take it from there
