Hi all :) I was just wondering if anyone knew of any good, reliable laptop used for gaming, 3d aplications and graphics software for college.

Around these specs for less than €1400:

    Processor: 2.53 GHz
    RAM: 4GB >
    Cache: 6mb would be great
    Graphics Card: 512 >

    Thanks for any suggestions :)

Toshiba QOSMIO RANGE INCLUDES A 9700M GTS /2.4 GHz monster for around 1200 -1400-nearly bought a demo in PC World uk for 899 pounds...Just be aware-very aware-that these are portable only in name/concept...They are HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE!They are meant to 'live' on a desk like a 'normal' pc .Battery life is pathetic ...I just sold a 15" Sony Vaio as it would slow to half cpu/gpu speed when you took out the power lead ...(This is a common 'feature'-"Speedstep"- which makes gaming away from power socket impossible -and its not always possible to disable it -couldnt in Sony )
Netbook and monster home gaming pc the way to go ...

17 inch portability is zero...there are some powerful 15 inchers try kobalt computers.co.uk or alienware.co.uk or dot ie .Toshiba 50-10Z has 9600m GT and is still VERY heavy ....512Mb card in 15 inch = hot hot hot

haha, wierdly enough, I was in peats last weekend and I seen the Qosmio, thats the one I was thinking of getting, I was just seeing if I missed a better one before I bought it :Dhttp://www.peats.com/cgi-bin/catalog.cgi?view_product=1&id=25564&sid=14&cid=20003&scid=24422

Ah, I hate sony laptops, so I prob wouldn't go for one :P Though it's always fun seeing how much you can raise the price on alienware :P

Thanks for your help man :) much appreciated

You should look at the sony vaio aw11zb im considering it for my next laptop. The 18" screen looks great. only problem is its size and weight well if you see it as a problem i don't. I hardly take my laptop off the desk.

    Elara have the Asus G50vt.
    http://www.elara.ie/products/detailsfull.asp?productcode=ECE1682596&productID=

Its price has been rising steadily (due to the currency), its at €1300 at the moment.

It is a 15"-er but a bulky one.
It has a 9800M GS (very good) and Blu-Ray drive, the rest of the spec is quite good except the screen res (1366x768). The 9800M GS is a proper 256-bit card, it will trounce most of the 9700M series.

Id imagine the ASUS is a (far?) better buy than the Toshiba Qosmio. It says none in stock for around a fortnight or more .

last generation macbook pro can be bought for around 1300 or 1400 euro. Get a cheap copy of windows xp and you are good to go. Very light for a 15 inch and can play most high end games with medium settings.

That doesnt make an awful lot of sense tbh. You can buy new Windows laptops with 8600M GT or equivalent all day long for €700 and under.

ok but what's the weight of other 15 inchers compared to the pro. Are they not heavier ? I'm not sure to be honest but it could be a lot more portable for him.

And you'd be paying about 1.4K then for 550-600 euro windows based laptop price performance. To save what - about 1lb? I doubt the OP had ultra portability in mind when he mentioned those spec's.

Nah I don't really see the point in getting a mac to run windows off, I don't really mind how portable it is. less than 5Kg would be great though :D I know it is going to be a bit hevy for the specs I asked for :P So I don't really mind :D
