I am in the market for a new laptop - preferable one that is circa 13/14" screen so that I can bring it when I am on the move.

I really like the look of the Sony Vaio but it is now approx double the cost of laptops from Lenovo, HP etc.

The question I have and hopefully someone can answer - over and beyond the aesthetics are they woth the additional money and if so, why?

They are a status symbol & often don't perform any better than other brands...

    Still good laptops...

Have one and its bog standard. HP's are a lot more definite. Lenovos are supposed to be bullit proof

    ?

For less than the price of 2.0ghz Dell XPS 1530

i got a vaio with 2.4ghz twice the disk space blu ray drive better on board sound etc etc

I think your mistaking a vaio for a Mac....

Great laptop; dreadful fan though, oh so noisy, friends with Vaios also find the same problem!! No dust stuck in the fan or anything, that's just how they are(and it can be really annoying, esp on a skype call)

I've had a vaio for like 2 years now and no problems with it. It was better than anything else i could find at the time and i went all over europe to find one lol. It Is full HD with a fantastic screen lots of connectivity HDMI, S video, Dvi and more, canceled a dell and passed on a fantastic HP which cost more but had less specs.

I am planning on getting a vaio next too :) already have one in mind ;)

Bought a 13in one, Z series, about 2 years ago. Worst note book I have ever used. It may just have been the model I bought at the time but deffo not worth the extra money. We are talking the 2000+ euro model.

With the price of notebooks these days there is much better value out there. Keep your moeny for somethng else imo :)

If it's for on the move, then you may find some of the other cheaper brands a better (and lighter) option - especially a good netbook like a Samsung DC 10- bought a Viao asa present before christmas but after looking in the North this week, was amazed at the extra value up there- a trip to currys in newry might make you re-consider- at least look at the options out there before buying so you don't reget after.
