Need a word

I've been writing an essay all day and my brain is absolute mush. I'm trying to think of a word that should normally be on the tip of my tongue but right now I can't think of it. Is there a word to describe when an author uses animal imagery to de-humanise a character in a novel?

Please tell me someone knows it otherwise I'll be tearing my hair out all bloody night!!

Ask folks who live in Cork. They're usually savage at thinking up such awkward words

I was thinking allegory, but that's for representing abstract ideas or conditions through a character/object.

    So my word is poontang.

Hi, I'm the person from Cork sent to give you the word zoomorphism, it's the tendency of viewing human behaviour in terms of the behaviour of animals, analogous to anthropomorphsim, which views animal behaviour in human terms, that's what you're looking for?

    wiki ftw :P

    Would it be "zoomorphise".
Kinda the reverse/animal equivalent of anthropomorphise (the (often) stupid assignment of human characteristics to animals).

Zoo: pertaining to animal (instead of the prefix anthropo (human)).
    Morphise: pertaining to shaping/creating etc.

    Do i win a prize?

Brutalize is close but wouldn't that pertain to adopting the sensibility of an animal?

This is what you get for studying all day. Go get pissed like a good student and you'll have the word in the morning.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

I think it's anthropomorphic. I didn't even google it so it could very well be wrong.

EDIT: I am wrong. Tech77 says why.
