    http://allyours.virginmedia.com/websales/50Mb/index.do

50Mbs broadband is available in a country near you but don't expect it anytime soon in this country. We still have 1 and 3Mb lines here.
Someday we'll catch up with the rest of the world.
Our "SOOPER FAST" bb is 7.6Mbs and marketed as if this were fantastic when in fact it's utterly shameful that in this day and age we have to endure this nonsense.

We still have massive contention ratios, from dial up days and utterly ridiculous censorship policies and throttling procedures.

Maybe someday we'll catch up to the third world.

I don't think thats a good comparison to be honest. In a like for like comparison you could compare UPC's 20mbit or even BT or Smart's 24mbit with the 50mbit and not Eircom's speeds since Virgin's rollout plans in the UK cater for Urban areas and is quite similar to the way to UPC/Smart/BT operate here.

The fact is UPC will have the capabilities to provide a product able to equal to Virgin's 50mbit speed in the near future and there has already been rumours of that here.

Of course that is all ignoring the fact that Magnet have been providing 50mbit broadband here for some time albeit in a limited fashion.

We really shouldn't be comparing ourselves to the UK, the UK are in a position not much better than ours. We need to be comparing ourselves to leaders and not countries who are essentially in the same hole we are.
