Merchant Paddy in the Novice Chase is my main bet of the day.:)

Will have a few quid on Dancing Tornado due to loyalty more than anything(DO think he has a big handicap in him)

Cracking card if you have a strong fancy. Lots of decent prices available

Ultra competitive renewal of the Pierse. I have had a small ew on Fen Game. Favoured at the weights to turn the tables on Imperial Hills from their xmas running. I liked Physco as soon as the weights were announced with the proviso that Newmill ran off top weight. He does and I missed the 10/1 earlier in the week

You missed out there, I had him doubled up with P'tit Fute

    @ Villain: Charter ftw

After watching the racing yesterday, Psycho definitely has a big race in him, unlucky to meet one better in the Pierse. However thats the nature of the game in huge handicaps like that, you need a huge deal of luck. I was very disappointed with Financial Reward, obviously the handicapper has nailed the horse, he was giving weight all around. Merchent Paddy may be one to follow if he goes for a similar trip over better ground as he travelled superbly yesterday. Another catching my eye was how well Kilcrea Castle battled on , the horse rarely fails to give value for its runs over chases and is another to watch.

Jesus relax ppl, if I can't post on the Horse Racing forum supporting a local horse that won, where are you meant to post?

Fair enough if you hadn't thrown in the bit about backing him on betfair at 22/1. Look, after-timing annoys the ****e out of me, if you haven't put the horse up beforehand on the forum then you shouldn't come on here telling us how you had him backed at a huge price/won a huge amount on him.

Besides, there's a thread stickied for gloating about such things.

Fair enough, I see what your saying, I have posted about this horse before and I tipped Hardy before his first win in Cheltenham at 33/1 just incase you thought this was my only contribution :D

A horse to take out of the Pierse Hurdle is Deutschland, if you watch it again Ruby Walsh has him about 30 lengths maybe more off the leaders with only 2 flights to go, then when he does ask him to quicken, they run into trouble and has to be switched and rallied late to be a close 8th. I honestly think if Ruby had got him closer then he could have won, but because Ruby wins loads of races for me, im not going to slag him off.

To be fair its an impossible race to know how to ride. You go out in front and you put your horse in the face of the ferocious wind for nigh on 2 miles if you expect to win, sit in behind and you've no idea whats coming behind you and its a pure stab in the dark when to push the button, hold up your horse at the back and especially over this quick trip you're asking for an awful lot of luck to get through the pack. Those ~30 runner handicaps are really difficult races. I thought Davy Russell gave Psycho an excellent ride but again he found one just too good for him on the day.

Good discussion with Don there on Newstalk as to how the withdrawal of Newmill (top weight) really shock things up. Talk of trainers saying they would have booked different jockeys at the new weights.

I suppose you have to have some system in place and whilst the winner did gain a weights advantage it was still a great performance to win.

I know John Kiely was livid with it anyway. Tbf to the handicapper, I'd lay the blame at the door of the connections of Newmill; its a massive race and obviously a decision to enter and then declare is not a minor one, its the type of race you'd target at the start or even before the jumps season starts and also if the horse had an injury or wasn't turning out well then don't declare. I can accept if the horse was injured the day or on the way to the track or something similar.
