    Hi all,

I have been asked to start a new job and the role will involve upgrading some of the company's service. company of 10 people

At the moment here is an idea of the set up:
Phone system - it is out of date and to get anybody to maintain it will cost alot.
Email: It is a mess, alot of spam, freeware software
NO BACKUP of any company data!!!!

So I was think of having some services online.

Google to look after the email - $50/user/year. Seems like a no brainer - saves going to exchange. also have google apps, there not great but will get better.

An online backup service- costs vary but I think it would save money by me not having to spend money on the hardware on our site and software will autobackup the info over night.

The PBX , I would hope to go for a VOIP solution to replace the phone systems they have.

So everything will be relatively straight forwards to setup (excluding VOIP)

    What do you think
Am I onto a winner here?

outsourcing for a small office can make a lot of sense but you will need solid and reliable internet connectivity with enough bandwidth to support all your users. That will be your weak point with your plans so plan accordingly.

I have done quite a lot of small low activity office setups like this and you but used a low end server (usually a HP ML series) running Small Business Server that has Active Directory/Exchange/File/Print/DNS/DHCP/web/etc... and use www.idrive.com for backing up. This can also be a very cost effective way to do this with the benefit of having faster local access for everything.

Outsourcing would be my preferred method if solution works for your company.

yes I think the outsourcing ideas would work, like email - let google deal with the virus checking etc etc. backing up - let someone else make sure my data is safe and when I need it I can get it easily.

Suppose it lets you put your time into other things as long as the internet connection stays up!!!!

ill have to do a load test on the line to see how well it is used.

We use Carbonite for back up because there is no upload limit. Also very easy to set-up/use
