Getting to Vegas?

Am trying to organise a trip to Las Vegas and just wanted opinions about flight options.

The plan is to go Sat 7 Feb and come back on Tue 10 Feb so 3 nights in Vegas and only 3 days off work. Fares seem great at that time and have 2 options:

Aer Lingus Dublin-New York and then Jetblue New York-Las Vegas on a single ticket which comes in at €497. Departing 1030 and arriving in Las Vegas at 1800. Leaving on Tuesday at 1029 and back in Dublin at 0830 on Wedneday morning.

Virgin London Gatwick-Las Vegas on the same days is £354 so about €389. Adding on an Aer Lingus flight to Gatwick is €80 including €24 in baggage charge:D so a total of €469. The connecting flight leaves Dublin at 0640 and would be in Vegas at 1330. Coming back leaving Vegas at 1600 and back in Dublin at 1415.

As I said fares seem great and am tempted to go with Virgin as the cost is lower. Also more time in Vegas being an advantage and better service I think - seatback TVs, free drink etc. etc.

The only advantage I see on the Aer Lingus one is it being a through ticket.

Any advice from people who have done similar and how both options would compare? As I say thnk the prices are great!

go for the london option, direct from london, quicker (NY to vegas is 6hr flying time), cheaper

I am just back from 7 nights in Vegas and I really think that 3 nights is not enough especially with the travel. It is an absolutely fantastic place though and you will love it. But be warned that although it may seem on paper like you can fit all the travel in easy with time difference etc, it is a long journey and you will be wrecked for at least one of those nights (if not 2!). And if your planning 3 nights and then straight back into work it is gonna be tough for you.

Anyways whatever you decide enjoy because I certainly did :D

Just giving you a heads up

Oh Rossie thank you for all your previous posts on Vegas. AS you described it, it was fantastic!

Have you tried Continentals prices for DUB/SNN-LAS via Newark?
Friend is flying one way Vegas - Shannon via newark for 251euro next week. While your likely to be on a 757 all of the way, the whole 757 fleet at Continental has been upgraded with Audio and video on demand Personal TV's in economy.

On your Gatwick option, bear in mind that if the EI flight to Gatwick os delayed or vice versa on the return, you may have to buy a new ticket.

JetBlue have free live TV in every seatback and free drinks. Feedback about them that I have heard has been extremely positive. For 497 euro that would be my first choice and the stopover in JFK would break the journey up nicely. Clearing US immigration at DUB is also a plus for this option

    Hey Mark63,

I've always found the Aer Lingus/JetBlue ticket prices to be on the expensive side.

Be sure to check out Continental (via Newark), Delta (via New York), US Airways (via Philadelphia) or American (via Chicago). They might work out cheaper. Of course, check out the cheapest Aer Lingus flight to the states (Boston, Washington, SF, New York, Chicago) Pretty much all the US airlines fly to Vegas from these cities, so you will be able to pick up a connecting flight no bother.

The more money you save on the flight, the more you have to spend when you are on hols!!!

EDIT - did a quick look for you...that Virgin flight through Gatwick is coming up cheapest for your dates. Next cheapest is Delta via JFK.

I'd go with Virgin Atlantic from Gatwick if I was you as they fly Boeing 747's on the route and it is nice once you take off to just have a nice long flight and just get there, breaking in New York and the long associated wait for the Vegas flight is boring and downright annoying. Plus the internal US Flights are Ryanairesque with hard seats but at least with inflight TV and headsets (I flew with Delta). Plus a through ticket can have a higher chance of losing your luggage.

On expedia.co.uk you can get flights from Dublin to LAX (Los Angeles) via Orlando Florida and via Heathrow coming home for £266 return, you can then fly from LAX to McCarran in Vegas quite cheaply for roundabout $100 as 5 different airlines compete on the route, US Airways, Southwest Airlines, American Airlines, Northwest Airlines and United Airlines.

If you were going for a week or two and wanted to save cash this would be an interesting way to go, however flying over 8,000 miles for 3 days:eek::eek: for a holiday???:confused:. It is not worth it one bit, for Business yes not otherwise. It is hardly worth crossing the Atlantic unless for a week minimum, still it will allow you to see it and get a taste and allow you to prepare for a longer vacation there later on.

You probably won't get to do the Grand Canyon so check out Red Rock canyon which is 15miles outside Vegas instead, that is one cool place also. I was there is April 08 for 10 nights and had a ball, good drink, gambling and loads of easy women:pac:, (watch out some are hookers though:eek:).

    have fun!!

thanks. sorry the weather wasn't the best for you and that the fireworks display was changed from the hotel roofs to the ground, that had to do with the fire on the roof of the monte carlo hotel earlier in the year and clark county won't allow fireworks on hotel roofs anymore :(

glad to see you had a good time
